THE BUILDING MANAGEMENT NEWSLETTER
Welcome to Stanford's 11th President!
Neuroscientist Marc Tessier-Lavigne took office on September 1, 2016. He's been busy these first weeks, welcoming new students, well as embarking on an ambitious listening tour of the Stanford community. "In my first few months here, I plan to spend a lot of time listening and learning," he said. Dr. Tessier-Lavigne shared his own "excitement, awe and trepidation" at assuming his new role.
University IT, the Registrar's Office, and the School of Humanities and Sciences have teamed up to build a technical solution to allow after-hours access to select classrooms around campus.
An integration between two key systems enables building doors to automatically unlock and lock for night and weekend classes. This solution enhances the student experience and brings welcome relief to building managers. Read more about the new program here
Integration Reduces Building Access Burdens
Roble Field Garage, a five-level parking structure under the existing recreation fields, will open in December. Roble Field will return to recreational use. The project will construct the adjacent segment of the new Panama Mall, a new pedestrian and bicycle pathway linking Samuel Morris Way and Governors Corner, and a segment of a new extension of Via Ortega to Santa Teresa Street. Photovoltaic panels are being installed on campus buildings to use energy from the sun. This photo shows the roof at Bing Concert Hall.
Reduce printer energy use by making sure sleep settings are enabled on large shared printers and to turn smaller printers off at night. Also remember to purchase re-manufactured toner cartridges and printer paper with at least 50% recycled content! A list of sustainable options can be found in the Purchasing Lists section of the Cardinal Green Office Resource Library.
