Dear Neighbors,

I recently traveled to Italy to visit our youngest daughter who is studying there. It was fascinating to take a step back in history, to walk on streets and enter buildings that had been walked on and inhabited by kings, queens, and other important historical figures. What was most interesting was seeing how so many monuments withstood the test of time. And, I’m always impressed at how fast the trains run!

Of course, this makes one think about how the decisions we make today will impact the future of our town. How the investments we choose to make, or not make, will impact those who walk our streets or inhabit our buildings in the future.

Great towns and cities are built on smart investment and a commitment to the future. This all starts with planning and prioritizing. We know that we are faced with many challenges right here in Greenwich - safety, flooding and sea level rise, aging infrastructure, and maintaining top quality schools.

We need to be thoughtful as we plan for the future of Greenwich. I’m glad that the current Board of Estimate and Taxation has taken the steps necessary to lay the foundation for the future of the town and plan for our capital projects.

Suspension of Speed Cameras

You may have read that enforcement of speed cameras in school zones has been suspended. The Town will hold a public hearing and seek additional local approval.

I served in the state legislature when we voted to allow municipalities to install speed cameras in school zones. I voted in favor of the bill.

I fully support traffic safety initiatives, but I was not part of the local process that brought the traffic cameras to Greenwich. Those votes were taken prior to my term on the Board of Selectmen.

I am a firm believer in following proper process and will do my part to ensure that all obligations are met, and to keep the public updated as information becomes available.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me at: Rachel.Khanna@greenwichct.gov or (203) 622-7706.

Best Regards,

Video: BET Budget

On March 31, Greenwich’s Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET) made its final decision on the budget, which passed unanimously. The BET reduced the budget the First Selectman had proposed by $6 million. This savings, combined with the Grand List revaluation, has resulted in a proposed mill rate of 10.12, making ours the lowest property tax rate in Connecticut.

Greenwich Department of Human Services Campership Fund

Summer camp isn’t just about fun and friendship—it’s also essential childcare.

Through the GDHS Fund’s Campership Program, Greenwich children have a safe, enriching place to go during the summer so working parents can stay employed when school is out.

When school is out, Campership steps in. As camp costs continue to rise, more families are relying on this support than ever before.
