With the Easter season and school year behind us, we look forward to the slightly more relaxed summer months of Ordinary Time!

Imagine the apostles going out in their boats in the evenings in hopes of the big catch of fish! Hanging out on the see of Galilee might have been somewhat relaxing, with the stress of selling, net and boat repair, and other tasks complete. The long slow night in the boat brought perhaps a time of rest until the nets were ready to gather in.

We educators have cast out our nets, we have completed the objectives of the school year. Now we rest – while the net and the sea do their nightly dance – to renew, regroup, and prepare for the next round. We have less time than we think to consider what we have done well and what we might want to improve.

Consider the topic of prayer: How well are our children grasping prayer?

We could ask these same questions of ourselves. How can I, especially during this ordinary time, make my prayer life extraordinary? How do I better open myself to God's divine inspiration? And finally... How can I guide my children to authentic, extraordinary prayer?
