From Self-Harm to Self-Love
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, half of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin by age 14. Thanks to you, 12-year-old Travis is receiving help early to cope with his disorders.
April and her children, Issabella and Travis
Being a single mom is hard. Raising two kids, one with special needs, is even harder. But the challenge is worth it to April.
April's 12-year-old son, Travis, is diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and is dyslexic and hypoglycemic, which means he has low blood sugar. He never had a relationship with his father who died in 2010, and it caused him a lot of pain.  He started experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and began harming himself.
"Instead of talking about it, the pain was comforting to him," said April.

Building a Fence: Part 1
Thanks to you, Mary is making sure her past doesn't repeat itself.
Mary* admits that she hasn't always been the best role model for her four children. She stayed in an abusive relationship for too long, her children were exposed to drugs and alcohol abuse, and they frequently had to "pick up and leave" due to her toxic relationships.
Her oldest son, Michael*, went to live with his dad when he was 9 years old. Now a teenager, he's been acting out, getting into trouble with his friends, and using drugs and alcohol. His dad couldn't handle him anymore, so Michael came back to live with his mom.
"Michael felt like his dad dumped him," said Mary. "He was angry about moving to a new home and starting a new school."
