MARCH 29, 2026 NEWSLETTER

Holy Week is not a collection of separate services. It is one continuous story—one unfolding, sacred drama that stretches across several days. At the heart of it is the Triduum—the great three days from Maundy Thursday through Easter—when the Church keeps one long liturgy that moves from table, to cross, to tomb, to new life.

This is not something we simply watch from the outside. We are invited into it.

Across this week, we don’t just remember what happened to Jesus—we walk with him. We take our place within the story. Through prayer and movement, silence and song, we become participants in this holy drama that has shaped the Church for centuries. And there is something deeply transformative about that kind of participation. When we move through the story together, step by step, it begins to move through us as well.

I hope you’ll join us—not just for one moment, but for the journey as a whole.

We begin on Palm Sunday, March 29, sometimes called the Sunday of the Passion. At both the 8:00 and 10:00 services, we’ll gather outside to begin. With palms in hand, we’ll walk together, recalling Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem. There is joy here—something like a parade—as we wave branches and walk as a community.

But the tone shifts quickly. As the service continues, we hear the full story of Jesus’s suffering and death. And we do more than listen—we take part. Together, we become the crowd: the ones who shout “Hosanna!” and the ones who later cry out “Let him be crucified!” In doing so, we begin to see that this story is not distant from us. We are already inside it.

Then comes the Triduum.

On Maundy Thursday, we gather to remember Jesus’s final meal with his disciples and his commandment to love one another. We follow his example not symbolically, but personally—by asking one another, “May I wash your feet?” It is an act of humility and grace, one that draws us deeper into the story we are living together.

That same service continues as we share in the Eucharist, remembering the Last Supper. And then, in a stark and powerful turn, the altar is stripped bare. The beauty of the space is undone before our eyes. There is no dismissal. We leave in silence, because the liturgy is not finished. The story is still unfolding.

Good Friday is not a separate service—it is the next movement in the same holy drama. We gather again, picking up where we left off. We hear the passion story in full. We pray. We encounter the cross as it is carried into the space, and we remember the weight of that walk—Jesus carrying the cross toward his death. There is no Eucharist, only the rawness of the moment. Together, we stand at the foot of the cross.

Holy Saturday holds us in the stillness of the tomb. There is no celebration of the Eucharist this day. The Church waits. And yet, even in the quiet, there is a sense of preparation—of breath being held—as the community begins to ready itself for what is coming.

Then, in the darkness before dawn, the final movement begins.

At the Easter Vigil, we gather outside to light a new fire. From that flame, light spreads into the darkness as we process into the church. We hear the ancient stories of God’s saving work, we welcome new life through baptism, and we move once more—walking, singing, and remembering who we are.

Only then, after we have walked the full path—through table, cross, and tomb—do we arrive at Easter morning. The celebration of the resurrection is radiant and full of joy. But it is not a stand-alone moment. It is the culmination of the entire journey.

To walk the whole of Holy Week, especially the Triduum, is to experience the Christian story from the inside. It is to be shaped by it—to be drawn into its sorrow, its silence, and finally its joy.

This is our holy drama. And we are not spectators.

We are participants.

I hope you will walk it with us.
