Today was a very busy day at the Food Bank, as volunteers were busy preparing the usual food bags as well as a turkey breast and all the trimmings for the guests' Thanksgiving dinners. As they always do, the food bank volunteers and the God's Gifts volunteers had gathered for prayer. This is also a time for celebrations and announcements.
and the story continues
"...today I stepped forward to let everyone know I had been lugging around a Singer sewing machine in my car for 3 weeks. When I accepted it, the donor requested that it be given to someone that could really use it. I told the volunteers that I had tried to pass it on, but the random guests I asked did not sew or have a use for it. So perhaps on what would prove to be the busiest day for them, they might ask the guests if they knew of anyone that could use a sewing machine.
You should have seen the look on some of the volunteers' faces. I might as well have asked them to look for a needle in a haystack if we had a haystack. I stepped back in line and thought, "Oh well Lord, I'm trusting you put that thought in my head for a reason".
There was a reason, alright. One of the Food Bank volunteers came up to me shortly after and asked if she could make a donation for the sewing machine, as hers had just broken. She explained that she makes quilts for military families. She could not believe there was a machine available. She is recently retired and was looking for purpose in her new life. Volunteering for the food bank and making these quilts have given her that purpose. She was so grateful and I was thrilled to pass on the sewing machine to just the right person.
I NEVER stop being amazed at how God works His miracles even on such a busy day as today. A Blessed Thanksgiving to All!"
