Faculty and administrators welcomed a record incoming class at the annual convocation in a formal ceremony that included bagpipes to celebrate the new school year. The event was a master class on how to succeed in college. It was part pep talk, part reality check with plenty of inspiration to get students ready for classes. READ MORE

The ink is dry.

The United States Collegiate Athletic Association and its board of directors announced in August the addition of eight new members, including Beacon College, for the 2023-24 academic year.
Stanton University (California), Quincy College (Massachusetts), Washington County Community College (Maine), Kennebec Valley Community College (Maine), and Beacon join as exploratory members. Southern California Leadership University (California) and United International College (Florida) will be recognized as provisional members. Lyon College (Arkansas) will be a full member for the upcoming year.

Beacon will compete in men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s cross country.

“With the goal to add athletics to the student experience, Beacon is an ideal fit for our association,” said BJ Bertges, chief operating officer of the USCAA. "They have taken all the right steps as an institution to ensure their success within college athletics. I cannot wait to see them compete this season."  

Beacon's men's and women's basketball seasons kick off October 28 at Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Florida.
Tattoo U
Steven Adams, '03 and '08, is a Beacon College super fan, and a fan of tattoos. And just as he likes his body art permanent, Adams wanted to do something with lasting impact for the place where he had evolved from a loner to a student leader in the spotlight. Colin Cavanaugh, '20, and Brianna Quilla, '18, tied the knot on Oct. 15, 2022. Brianna works for O2B Kids! teaching voluntary pre-kindergarten (VPK) classes for four and five-year-olds. Colin works for ABC Fitness Solutions as a remote support technician. They live in St. Augustine, Florida.
Dr. Rosalyn Johnson, '09, of Jacksonville, Florida was hired as chief clinical officer (CCO) at Clay Behavioral Health Center, a non-profit community mental health center in the Jacksonville area. She previously served for two years as the clinical mental health director overseeing all of the mental health, substance use, and suicide prevention/crisis intervention services at the regional juvenile detention center in Jacksonville.
Abby Ryan, '23, of Wesley Chapel, Florida is working towards her certification in early childhood education. She plans to become a teacher’s assistant and gain classroom experience working in infant and toddler classrooms in pursuit of earning her child development associate (CDA) credential. Her goal: becoming an infant and toddler lead teacher.

Learning to lead
Academic advisor and freshman learning specialist - lead Melissa Mayor in August earned her certification in "Psychology of Leadership" from Cornell University. The course equips graduates with practical tools and cutting-edge behavioral science findings to ensure influencing and leading others become core competencies.
