By reading through the fraternity's purpose and identity statement, one can gain an accurate understanding of what Beta Upsilon Chi is. The purpose of BYX is to establish brotherhood and unity among college men based on the common bond of Jesus Christ.

The identity statement, introduced to BYX tradition in 2010, elaborates by explaining who we are as a fraternity. It states that BYX is a lifelong brotherhood of committed Christian men seeking the bonds of brotherhood and unity in Christ through the avenue of a social fraternity on a college campus.

The purpose and identity statement paint not only an accurate picture of BYX, but also a beautiful one. Those two sentences tell men that by signing their bid card they are committing to a fraternity of brothers that will stand by them and point them to the Savior as long as they are on this side of Heaven. These statements describe a fraternity in which brothers create memories through socials, traditions and Greek life, all the while doing so in a manner that glorifies the great name of Jesus and sanctifies the faithful brothers of BYX.

However, to allow words on a page to paint the full picture of BYX doesn't do the fraternity justice. To gain a full appreciation for BYX, it takes an understanding of exactly how it has impacted the individual brothers and what it has meant to them. To hear the individual hearts of the men of Beta Upsilon Chi is to start painting with vivid color.

In this edition of the "What is BYX? Video, brothers from all over the country contributed a one-sentence description of what BYX is to them. These brothers have observed through their own lenses how the Lord has used BYX to profoundly impact college men all over the country and were gracious enough to share what they have seen. Each brother has a different answer when asked, "What is BYX?" But the goal remains the same: fostering brotherhood and unity under the common bond of Jesus Christ. The common thread that runs through each answer is Jesus, and he always will be.
