Today we give thanks to unions across Florida for their endless pursuit of fair and just treatment for workers. In times when our unions are under attack, the Florida Democratic Party is proud to stand united with organized labor. Happy Labor Day – thank you to the workers who built America.

As recovery work continues in the Big Bend and other areas impacted by Hurricane Idalia, please continue to support these efforts and share opportunities to support with our team so that we can help uplift needs and recruit helping hands.

To honor Labor Day, FDP offices will be closed for the week and staff will be given time off. Please feel welcome to email our team if you need anything, but note that our staff may be slow to respond. We will return to offices on Monday, September 11.

I hope you have a great Labor Day with family and friends, and I urge you to find a way to support the victims of Hurricane Idalia.

Hurricane Relief
Hurricane Idalia hit our neighbors across Florida, making landfall as a record-breaking category 3 hurricane. As recovery efforts continue, Florida Democrats are here to provide clarity and support during this difficult time. 

Making a Property Insurance Claim

  1. Contact Your Insurance Provider: Notify them of the damage as soon as possible. Ask for guidance and a list of documentation that is required.
  2. Document the Damage: Take photos and videos of the damage before making repairs to use as evidence for your claim. 
  3. Understand Your Policy: Read your insurance policy, identify what is covered and what isn't. 
  4. Seek Professional Help: The claim process is long and complex, consider hiring a public adjuster or attorney for assistance, especially with the recent changes in laws.

Looking for a way to get involved in Hurricane Idalia recovery efforts? 

One of the best ways to show our neighbors that we are there for them is by supporting a local nonprofit organization assisting with the recovery efforts on the ground.

  • Farm Share – Donate to support food banks with distribution points in hurricane impacted areas
  • 2-1-1 Big Bend – Donate to support 24 hour crisis hotline support and direct connection to local community resources in the Big Bend
  • Direct Relief – Donate to support their work with local healthcare facilities in Florida and throughout the U.S. Gulf Coast to ensure those in need have medication, supplies, and necessary care. 
National Voter Registration Day September 19
The Florida Democratic Party is hosting a statewide day of action for National Voter Registration Day on September 19. We ask that your DEC, Club, or Caucus join us by using the mobilize link below to create an event in your community to register voters and sign them up for vote-by-mail.

In order to prepare, we will be doing a series of trainings and check-ins where we will go over the following:

  • Our new voter registration app
  • Organizing best practices for NVR Day of Action
  • Logistical information for the day of and leading up to NVRD
  • Strategic messaging and volunteer recruitment

Trainings will take place on:

Wednesday, Sept 13 @ 6pm-7pm

Saturday, Sept 16 @ 10:30am-11:30am

All Trainings will be held via Zoom

The last training on 9/16 will be geared more toward a review and getting ourselves ready for the Day of Action / troubleshoot any questions.
State Convention

2023 State Convention will be held at the Rosen Centre in Orlando October 27th-29th. Sign up at fdpconvention.com to make sure you receive all upcoming State Convention updates. Urge Miami-Dade Schools to Recognize LGBTQ+ History Month

On Wednesday, September 6th, the Miami-Dade School Board is considering item H-11 to officially recognize October as LGBTQ+ History Month, which was first acknowledged by MDCPS in 2021.

We’re mobilizing again this year because we KNOW how important it is for students to feel seen and represented in their schools. We KNOW how important visible support for the LGBTQ+ community and our rights is, especially this year. Students need to know that the Miami-Dade school board has their back. Click here to learn how you can help.

Labor Day: Generations of workers have fought for our union rights, and Florida’s Republican supermajority is attacking those rights at every turn.

Hurricane Response: On Wednesday, Hurricane Idalia made landfall in the Big Bend as a Category 3 hurricane — the first major hurricane in the modern history of the region. Ron’s vetoes and inaction on the property insurance crisis has made Floridians more vulnerable to hurricanes.

Property Insurance: Ron and his Republican supermajority have done nothing to fix the property insurance crisis. 

Inflation Reduction Act: Ron’s economic policies are a disaster for Floridians.

Jacksonville Shooting: On Saturday, August 26, a white supremacist shot and killed three Black people at a Dollar General in Jacksonville, FL. The victims were Angela Michelle Carr, 52, Anolt Joseph “AJ” Laguerre Jr., 19, and Jerrald Gallion, 29.

Ron and his sidekicks are complicit in these hate crimes.
