Dear friends,

This morning, I spoke with my fellow bishops from the Dioceses of Western North Carolina, Georgia, and parts of Florida. All of them have suffered losses of life and damage to churches, communications struggles, and lack of power due to the recent hurricane.

One of the hardest hit areas is Western North Carolina. Their bishop has asked that donations of supplies and money be coordinated from a single point in our diocesan office so that we can most effectively reach the greatest needs.

Therefore, I am asking that at least in this beginning phase of response, all our teams of volunteers, donations of supplies, money, and other forms of help are coordinated by our diocesan disaster relief coordinator, Bob Whelan.

The following churches will act as collection sites for donated supplies. The diocese will make sure supplies are then transported to Western North Carolina or other places in need.

I will keep you updated as circumstances change. I ask for your prayers for those across the Southeast affected by this storm.

When disaster looms, when our fear is great, come to us, loving God. Let us rest in your shadow and grow in confidence of your great love and your boundless compassion. Amen.
