Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As spring unfolds here in Palm Beach County, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the people, places and partnerships that continue to shape our vibrant community. Moments like these — when we come together to celebrate accomplishments, share ideas and tackle challenges — remind me why public service is so deeply meaningful.

One such moment took place recently when I had the honor of recognizing the American Heritage Schools Palm Beach Boys Soccer Team for their remarkable championship season. Their dedication and teamwork captured the spirit of excellence we strive for across the county. I was proud to officially proclaim March 1 as "American Heritage Schools Palm Beach Stallions Day," a lasting tribute to their hard work and success.

There’s so much to look forward to this season — from exciting new businesses like Barnes & Noble opening in Tequesta to community conversations about future developments like the Shadowood Plaza and plenty of spring events and family-friendly activities ahead. Whether engaging in civic dialogue or enjoying time with neighbors, I encourage you to stay active and involved.

It’s an honor to serve you, and I’m always here to listen, connect, and help move our community forward.

Very Truly Yours,

Maria Sachs, Commissioner

I recently honored the incredible achievements of the American Heritage Schools Palm Beach Boys Soccer Team during a spirited campus ceremony. With students, faculty and families in attendance, I declared March 1 as "American Heritage Schools Palm Beach Stallions Day," a tribute to the team's championship season, hard work and sportsmanship.

The event featured heartfelt speeches, special trophies and a standing ovation for the coaches and players. The ceremony was a proud moment not only for the team but also for the entire school community. I've reflected on the celebration as one of my proudest moments in public service, sharing how inspired I am by the young athletes' dedication, unity and excellence.

What's Been Happening in PBC District 5

Together with the help of fellow Palm Beach County officials, the Palm Beach County Transportation Planning Agency and the Florida Department of Transportation, Commissioner Maria Sachs (5th from L) was able to address a wide variety of pertinent traffic and transportation issues.

In February, I held a Transportation Summit at the South County Civic Center to discuss traffic concerns and future transportation plans for Lyons Road, Atlantic Avenue, and the surrounding areas. The panel of experts, including staff from Palm Beach County Engineering and Public Works Department, Florida Department of Transportation, Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency, Florida Power & Light, GL Homes, and LUX Solar In-Road Lighting, provided attendees with an overview of major road projects that have been completed, those that are under construction, and future projects. Residents had the opportunity to ask questions regarding traffic concerns in their neighborhoods and provided suggestions to make the surrounding roads safer.

County Engineers David Ricks and Joanne Keller discussed the major road projects, which include recently completed projects and projects under construction. Recently completed projects include widening Lyons Road to 2 to 4 lanes from Clint Moore Road to Atlantic Avenue and Flavor Pict Road to 2 lanes from SR-7 to Lyons Road. Construction projects include expanding Atlantic Avenue from 2 to 4 lanes, from SR-7 to Lyons Road, and Atlantic Avenue from 4 to 6 lanes from Lyons Road to the Turnpike. County Administrator Verdenia C. Baker also attended the summit and provided remarks.

It was a privilege to speak at the South Palm Beach County Bar Association’s Monthly Membership Luncheon, where I joined a panel of remarkable women leaders: Palm Beach County State Attorney Alexcia Cox, Kelly Smallridge, President and CEO of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County, and Moderator Sia Baker-Barnes, President-Elect of the Palm Beach County Bar Association and a partner at Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley. We discussed the intersection of law, economic development and public service — and how our roles uniquely contribute to building a stronger, more equitable Palm Beach County.

As a member of the Florida and California Bars, as well as a public servant, I deeply value these moments of collaboration. From justice reform to smart growth and civic engagement, it takes all of us — public officials, business leaders, and the legal community — working together to make meaningful progress. I’m grateful to the Bar Association for hosting this timely conversation and to all who continue to lead with purpose in our community.

Connectivity in Housing

I had the pleasure of hosting an engaging and productive meeting in the Canyon District, where we brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including residents, planners, and community leaders, to discuss an exciting and forward-thinking proposal: implementing golf cart-friendly sidewalks. As our population grows and neighborhoods become more interconnected, we must explore innovative ways to enhance local mobility, improve safety, and encourage eco-friendly transportation alternatives. The feedback and enthusiasm from the community were incredibly encouraging, and it’s clear that people are ready to embrace ideas that support both convenience and quality of life. By working collaboratively, we’re not just imagining better streets but actively planning them. I’m proud to help pave the way, literally and figuratively, toward safer, more accessible, and community-oriented infrastructure throughout Palm Beach County.

I had the pleasure of attending the Tiger Forest Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at the Palm Beach Zoo, and it was indeed a remarkable experience. As part of the event, I received an exclusive preview of the zoo’s breathtaking new Tiger Forest habitat, a significant step forward in animal care and environmental education. The thoughtfully designed space offers both a naturalistic home for the Malayan tiger and an immersive experience for visitors to learn about this endangered species and the importance of conservation. This milestone highlights the Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society’s unwavering dedication to wildlife preservation and sustainability. From the passionate staff to the engaged community members, it was inspiring to see many come together to support this vision. I’m proud to support this vital work and excited to see how Tiger Forest will continue to educate and inspire future generations.
