My name is Maria Sachs, your new County Commissioner.
To know me is to know my family. At my inaugural, my son, Taylor Sachs, Esq., administered the oath of office while my daughter, Natasha, held my mom's bible, and my husband, Peter, stood by my side.
Family is important. They are the ones we leave each day to do our work and they are the ones we return home to.
As your county commissioner, I will commit to the following:
- To preserve our communities so they remain sanctuaries for our families.
- To protect our environment – water, food and land, against the destruction of climate change, for the benefit of our children, grandchildren and generations to come.
- To collaborate with my fellow commissioners to reinvigorate our economy and create high paying jobs for all our people in Palm Beach County.
- To maintain faith in local government and reaffirm the belief we are all in this together.
We are one community, one climate, one people – we are Palm Beach County.

Meet the Team
As a resident of Palm Beach County you will always have direct access to my team and our offices. You may request a meeting by contacting my staff at (561)355-2205 or via email . Meetings can take place online or in the office at either the West Palm Beach or Delray Beach locations.
Michelle Damone, Chief of Staff, MDamone@pbcgov.org. Michelle was born in Fort Lauderdale making her a rare Floridian. She has over 20 years of experience in government as a former local elected official, in government relations and as a political consultant. Michelle has been a Palm Beach County resident for 24 years raising both of her children here through the public school system. She has a strong background in parks, roads, drainage, non-profit organizations and the equestrian community. When Michelle is not working, she loves to take extended weekend trips to the Green Mountain State of Vermont where she graduated high school and flies frequently to Nashville, Tennessee because she enjoys country music and the sweet face of her young grandchild.
Vivian Leiva, Senior Administrative Assistant, VLeiva@pbcgov.org. Vivian has worked for Palm Beach County for 26 years, bringing a great deal of institutional knowledge and historical input to the team. Having moved to West Palm Beach in 1971, she has seen the tremendous growth throughout the county and often tells stories as a little girl when there was only one mall and I-95 was non-existent. She enjoys working with homeowners groups and civic organizations in assisting our District Five communities with various issues. In her free time, she likes baking, reading, listening to all genres of music and values spending time with her very athletic family, often at many sports venues. Vivian has been married for 36 years and has three children and grandchildren. She also cares for her elderly parents who reside locally.
Meaghan White, Senior Administrative Assistant, MAWhite@pbcgov.org. Meaghan is also a South Florida Native who grew up in District Five attending local area public schools and universities. She graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University with her degree in Communications & Public Relations. A true native, Meaghan loves to spend time at our area beaches and parks with her family. She is passionate about our children, our seniors and the environment. Meaghan feels blessed to continue working with and for the people in the same area she was raised, just as she has for the past fourteen years. Though she loves to travel there is hardly ever a need since Palm Beach County truly has the best of everything!
With such a steller team there is no doubt that we will collaborate and find solutions to the people of districts five's problems and concerns.
Thank you, all of you, for your support.
I look forward to serving you as your County Commissioner.

At the December 8, 2020, Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board received a presentation on how the pending COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna will be stored, distributed and administered and an update on local COVID-19 mitigation efforts from Dr. Alina Alonso.
While five Florida hospitals have been designated to receive the first of the COVID-19 vaccines, none of them are located in Palm Beach County. Referred to as the “Pfizer 5,” Tampa General Hospital, Broward Memorial, UF Health Jacksonville, Advent Health in Orlando and Jackson Memorial in Miami will be the first Florida hospitals to receive the vaccine.
Governor DeSantis has said that when the first 1 million to 2 million vaccines arrive in the state, nursing home residents and hospital workers will be the first to get vaccinated because of the high risk they face. Because each person has to receive two shots, whatever allotment the state receives will be cut in half.
Wanting to have our voices heard in Tallahassee, I drafted a letter to Governor DeSantis requesting that Palm Beach County hospitals be given priority and our emergency responders be amongst the first to receive the vaccine. Once received, our county resources are poised to immediately begin distribution.
As always, I encourage everyone to follow the CDC's best practices to protect ourselves, our families and our community.
