Happy September! As always, I hope this finds you well. The curiosity bug as hit me again. What makes an organization successful? I believe it is accomplishing their Mission.

Mission –we hear this term a lot – Mission Statement, Mission Goal, Mission Impossible.

Mission - 1 (a) a specific task with which a person or a group is charged (Merriam – Webster)

This word and topic has been rolling around in my head a lot for the past month. Several books that I have been reading keep referring to the term Mission. Undaunted Courage (about the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery Expedition) by Stephen Ambrose; Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa; and Philippians by Paul all focus on the Mission undertaken.

The lack of focus on the Mission can be humbling. I battle this lack of focus every day. Customer issues, employee concerns, etc. bring a whirlwind into the day. Outside forces (i.e. COVID-19) and internal forces (marketing, the next shiny object, etc.) all draw our focus away from the Mission.
