Have you ever experienced such a dramatic campaign season? Not since the days of Bernstein and Woodward cracking Watergate, or the attempted assassination of Ronald Regan, as well as the resignation of President Lyndon B. Johnson, have we Americans experienced such controversy in our national elections.
Let’s not get weary! It is vitally important to exercise our civic duty as citizens, which is the right to vote. Elections have consequences; we must exercise our fundamental duty to vote if we want real policy change.
I have included information on how citizens can register to vote in this Sachs Sentinel. Okay, Floridians, let’s vote!

Register to Vote in the 2024 Election
It is important to note that a new Florida law requires those who wish to vote by mail to request ballots after each general election. If you have requested a new mail ballot after November 2022, you can vote by mail in the 2024 election.
If you haven’t done so yet, you need to contact the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections to request a vote by mail ballot.
You can register to vote, view or update your voter information online at VotePalmBeach.gov. To submit paper voter registration forms, visit local voting agencies which are available throughout the county at local libraries, supervisor of election offices, driver license offices, public assistance offices, disabilities offices, Armed Forces recruitment offices, centers for independent living and entities authorized by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to issue fishing, hunting or trapping permits.

I'm pleased to announce that we are in the home stretch of construction to widen Lyons Road from two to four lanes from the LWDD L-38 Canal north to Atlantic Avenue. While we hoped paving would be completed this week, weather and mechanical issues impacted the schedule. Due to inclement weather, the contractor lost 12 days in June and 10 days in July.
Equipment repairs are expected to be completed this week, allowing paving to begin again and continue daily until Friday, Aug. 16. At that point, nighttime paving operations will begin and are expected through Wednesday, Aug. 21, on all dates, weather permitting.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue
As Mayor, I was honored to address the men and woman of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. They are our heroes! They are the ones who first respond to danger. As your Mayor, I am committed to support our men and women in uniform for their service and protection for all our citizens.

At the Board of County Commissioners meeting, I presented a proclamation declaring July 2024 Park and Recreation Month in Palm Beach County. Communities with successful park systems, such as those in Palm Beach County, allow all residents to connect with the outdoors conveniently. This year’s national theme for Park and Recreation Month, “Where You Belong,” perfectly aligns with the department’s ongoing campaign, “PBC Parks: Where You Belong,” highlighting the county’s commitment to transforming the park experience into a welcoming space for everyone. The proclamation underscores the importance of parks and recreation in fostering community well-being, environmental stewardship and social engagement, encouraging all residents to participate in the various programs and events planned throughout the month.
Parks & Recreation Community Meeting
Palm Beach County Parks have always been a source of open spaces and places that all our residents can enjoy. As Mayor of one of the largest geographical counties in the state, it is important that we preserve open spaces for recreation. One of the largest parks in the county is Burt Aronson South County Regional Park. During a community meeting, we discussed opening a Bocce field. Because of citizen participation in this meeting, the Bocce field is open!
Dog Parks in the District
Palm Beach County residents love their dogs so much that they love to take them anywhere they can with them; they don't call them man's best friend for nothing. Did you know, that District 5 has two great dog parks, including The Dog Park at Lake Ida West Park and Canine Cove at Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park. Some amenities for your pooch include dog wash stations, small, medium and large dog sections, double-gated entries and dog drinking fountains.
During the celebration of our nation's birthday, I was delighted to meet with the residents of the South County area at the Fourth of July event I hosted.
How often does the county mow the sides of the roads and medians?
The side of the road is mowed every 6-8 weeks and medians every 4-5 weeks. All hand type mowing, weed eating and edging is done twice a year. If there is a specific problem regarding visibility due to overgrown hedges and trees in the county right-of-way or other concerns, contact the Engineering Action Center at 561-684-4012 or ENG-ActionCenter@pbc.gov.
