New Student Orientation Success!
This past weekend, Coppin State held its third New Student Orientation session for 2018. More than 450 freshmen and their families visited our campus, this summer, to prepare for the fall semester. Special thanks to Michelle Reynolds for coordinating sessions and activities for the orientation attendees. We will welcome our new and returning students when classes resume on August 27. 
Diverse Issues in Higher Education: HBCUs and PBIs Usher in New Era of Cybersecurity
The most recent edition of Diverse Issues in Higher Education includes an article about how Coppin State University and other largely minority- serving institutions have embraced cybersecurity programs and academic offerings. The article references the 350,000 cybersecurity jobs that went unfilled, last year, and the passage of Maryland Senate Bill 615, establishing the Cyber Warrior Diversity Program at all four of the state's HBCUs and Baltimore City Community College. Natural Sciences Department Hosts AgDiscovery for Budding Agriculturalists
Coppin State University was one of 22 universities selected by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to host AgDiscovery -- a national intensive summer internship program designed to expose middle and high school students to prospective careers in agriculture. At the end of the program, the participants presented their research to instructors, peers, and parents on subjects including agricultural husbandry, environmental science, food waste and food insecurity.  
Helping Small Businesses Reach the Next Step
Coppin State was the host facility for the Mayor’s Inner City Capital Connections (ICCC) program. The two-day seminar drew business owners from as far away as Chicago to participate in workshops on finance, marketing, and job creation. The seminar served as a kick–off for a cohort group of business owners that will participate in six-month-long coaching and training sessions of best practices to "help small businesses accelerate to their next stage of growth." 
Coppin Academy Principal Named Principal of the Year!
Coppin Academy’s Principal, Aisha Almond, has been named 2018 College Bound Foundation, Principal of the Year for Baltimore City . We are proud of Principal Almond’s work to prepare Coppin Academy High School students for college. Ms. Almond is a member of Coppin State University's Class of 1999.
Coppin Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance
Coppin State’s Humanities Department joins the national movement to mark the 100th anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance. The community is invited to, “Connecting the Dots: From the Harlem Renaissance to Hip Hop,” with Professor Theron Coleman. The event takes place on Friday, November 9, at 10:30 a.m., in the newly renovated James Weldon Johnson Auditorium. All are welcome to attend.
Coppin Alumnus Authors Book
Coppin State adjunct history professor and alumnus, Dr. Lopez Matthews, recently published the book “Howard University in the World of Wars: Men and Women Serving the Nation.” Dr. Lopez was recently featured as a guest speaker in the documentary, “Howard: 100 Years of ROTC at Howard University” on the same issue. His book is available on August 6. 
Outdoor Summer Concert Series - Open to All
The month of June kicked off the 6 th Annual Alumni Concert Series. Friends and family are invited to spend summer nights listening to jazz, rhythm and blues, cover bands, and neo-soul artists. The series runs through September. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, and enjoy the crafts and food vendors. This free concert series takes place, every fourth Thursday, on the library quad, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Coppin Night in Oriole Park at Camden Yards!
Tickets are now available for, "Coppin Pride Night in Oriole Park at Camden Yards."   Guests are treated to a catered bullpen picnic, a limited-edition official Major League Baseball co-branded Coppin State/Baltimore Orioles baseball cap, an “Eagles Back the Birds” t-shirt, Coppin State sunglasses, and entrance to the game. Coppin Alumnus Named Delaware State's New Men's Basketball Coach
Congratulations to Class of 1997 graduate, Eric Sketters, on being selected as Delaware State’s new Men’s Basketball head coach. Coach Sketters was an assistant coach for the UMBC basketball team that beat the #1 seeded, University of Virginia, this past season. Congrats, Coach Sketters!
