It's Official - Accreditation Reaffirmed!
Coppin State University has received formal notification that the Middle States Commission on Higher Education has reaffirmed accreditation, with the next scheduled review set to take place during the 2025-26 academic year. My heartfelt thanks to all those who worked, tirelessly, to ensure that our Middle States self-study, and team visit, in February, was a success.
Finish4Free @ Coppin State
The CSU Finish4Free program has been initiated. Go to www.coppin.edu to read more about this exciting new program that offers graduates of Baltimore City Public High Schools, who earn their Associate's Degree from Baltimore City Community College, the opportunity to attend CSU, tuition-free, for two years.
Cyber Warrior Diversity Program
A news conference detailing the Cyber Warrior Diversity Program was held on the campus, two weeks ago, announcing the passage of Maryland legislation that will support a cybersecurity training program at Coppin State that will be available to enrolled students. It was my pleasure to welcome Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford as one of the featured speakers at the news conference. Coppin graduate and CEO of Digit All Systems, Lance Lucas, was a true leader in the effort to expand cybersecurity programs at Maryland HBCUs. His dedication, along with the leadership and support of fellow Coppin alum, Sen. Barbara Robinson, who sponsored the legislation to support this program, will provide our students the opportunity to excel in the cybersecurity field.
Foundation Merit Scholarship
Dr. Jacqueline Blackwell, Coppin State class of 1970, is the newest member of the Foundation Merit Scholarship (FMS) Program. Dr. Blackwell will be honored as a program donor at the Donors and Scholars Brunch on October 13. Since last year’s induction ceremony, 15 new scholarships have been established, which brings the total number of Foundation Merit Scholarships to 47, since the program began, in 2012. Each $25,000 scholarship is matched by the Coppin State University Development Foundation, creating a $50,000 endowed scholarship in the donor's name or in the name of someone the donor wishes to honor or remember. Those interested in becoming an FMS donor can contact Tara Turner in the Office of Institutional Advancement at 410 951-3800.
Summer Academic Success Academy (SASA)
Over 90 incoming freshmen have moved onto the campus to participate in the Summer Academic Success Academy (SASA), which began this past weekend. The students will take part in the six-week, intensive college immersion program. Students will learn about college life, prepare for the start of the fall semester, and earn college credit during the program. SASA is one of the leading college immersion programs in the State of Maryland.
