Executive Director Update

October/November 2023

Hello Rickey, Hope you are doing well. Off-season is in full swing at the Chapel. Groups are slowing down but lots of work is happening around here.

Hurricane Idaila Update

We decided to wait until the end of hurricane season before resuming the repairs to the Sea Shack and main Chapel building. That work has just restarted. My house has a final inspection scheduled for today. I have been in touch with the adjuster and restoration company weekly. Our insurance is expected to once again pay for damages. I will keep you updated.

Summer Staff Recruiting

I recently attended the job fair at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. I was able to engage with many students as well as leaders from other camps.

Caleb Waters (below), one of our summer staffers (he attends LU), was able to join me in promoting the Chapel summer staff position.

St. John Dorm Renovations

Each year we try to make significant improvements to one area on campus. This off-season the St. John dorm has been chosen. This dorm has not had major upgrades since it was built in 1982. Avery and Casey will have before and after pictures to share. Here is a list of upgrades:

  • New flooring
  • Shower improvements
  • New toilet partitions
  • New mattresses
  • New kitchen cabinets & countertops
  • New dining room tables/chairs

Circle 555 Grant

Circle 555 is a women's giving group that is a division of the South Carolina Christian Foundation. Last year Circle 555 presented the Chapel with a $5,000 grant for our Children's Home Ministry. Our children home ministry has been selected once again to be in consideration for another grant. As a repeating ministry for this grant, I was asked to make a two-minute video indicating how we had spent the Circle 555 grant money from last year. Check out the video:

Reservations and Marketing

Our reservations remain high for next summer as we are currently at 78%. We also have several churches on a waiting list in hopes that some full weeks become available. Courtney and I have also sent out fall and spring marketing material to our database.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletics Middle School State Conference begins the weekend of Friday, November 10th. Please pray for FCA leaders, huddle leaders and all the middle schoolers who will attend from across our state.

Volunteer Group

Recently we had volunteers from the Chick-fil-A regional facilities team helping us with our off-season projects. They were able to accomplish so much! Special thanks to Steve Farmer and Mike Peterson for their dual role of CFA operator and GCC trustee.

In Closing:

  • At our weekly staff meetings we are going through the Book of Revelation. We have learned a lot and we have also had some great questions and conversations. We are using the Through The Word app as our guide.
  • Sometimes we have people contacting us for your contact information. Be assured that we do not share your personal information with anyone. In those cases we take their info and pass that on to you.
  • I want to also thank each of you for your continued monthly giving which helps to sustain the Chapel in the off-season. Many of you are giving online. But whatever your method, thank you so much for your generous heart and love for the Chapel. If you want to see our online giving page, click here..
  • From our staff to your family: May you and your family have a joyful Thanksgiving holiday! Hope it will be full of blessings, love, laughter and an abundance of food. Happy Thanksgiving!
