As we close out Affordable Housing Month and enter NeighborWorks Weeks on May 23 - June 7, we’re especially excited to celebrate the power of community-driven impact across our work.

This two-week national initiative is a time to recognize the power and importance of working in close partnership with residents and partners, to build stronger communities.

Our Resident Services team exemplified this earlier this month by hosting a well-attended Healthcare Fair in partnership with South Central Christ in Raleigh for residents of Glenbrook Crossing - providing important health screenings for seniors within the community.

We also welcomed the Strong Families Fund team to a Pantry Tuesday event in partnership with Raleigh Fellowship Church at Washington Terrace, showing what happens when partnerships meet the vital needs of residents - access to healthy food.

Scroll below to learn how these initiatives, paired with growing momentum in our development work, help drive a collaborative ecosystem expanding affordable housing access throughout the Triangle.

Development Updates

We’re excited to share a major milestone for the redevelopment project at the site of the former Regency Inn. In April, Greensboro City Council approved funding support for phase one of the project, Ellington Place, and a full tax credit application is under review by NC Housing Finance Agency. This phase will include 75 affordable apartment homes designed to serve seniors, along with shared community amenities and supportive spaces. Once complete, the full development is expected to bring 114 affordable homes to the site for seniors and families.

We’re also celebrating the completion of SECU the Sparrow in Wilmington, NC - our third consulting engagement with Good Shepherd Center. This new Permanent Supportive Housing community provides 32 one-bedroom apartments for chronically homeless individuals living with significant disabilities, alongside amenities designed for long-term support.

Lastly, we can announce that the refinance and renovation of MacGregor Village in Greenville is officially underway, preserving 80 affordable homes for families in the community. This important work is made possible through support from the NCHFA’s Rental Preservation Loan Program.

Projects like these reflect the power of strong partnerships and community-centered development in creating lasting housing solutions across our state.
