As National Homeownership Month comes to a close, there’s no better time to pause and celebrate the transformative power that homeownership has on families - especially those we’ve witnessed firsthand through our Homeownership Center (HOC).

Since 2004, we have helped 2,400+ families achieve the dream of homeownership through personalized support from our HUD-certified housing counselors. From private counseling sessions and loan pre-qualification assistance, to home search guidance and post-purchase counseling, we help clients navigate every stage of the homeownership journey.

Our work to connect North Carolinians to affordable housing isn’t possible without our partners, and we were honored to celebrate them at our HOC Partnership Brunch as part of NeighborWorks Week earlier this month! A special thank you to Fifth Third Bank for sponsoring this event and supporting the work of helping more families achieve their homeownership goals.

Industry News

Governor Josh Stein recently signed an executive order aimed at increasing North Carolina's housing supply and improving affordability statewide. The order directs state agencies to coordinate efforts, leverage data and technology, and identify opportunities to support housing development as the state faces a projected shortage of more than 750,000 homes by 2029.

The announcement underscores what affordable housing developers, advocates, and community leaders have long recognized: North Carolina's housing ecosystem requires collaborative solutions.

As North Carolina’s population continues to grow at a rapid rate, expanding access to affordable housing remains essential for supporting seniors, working families, and individuals across our communities. We welcome efforts that prioritize housing solutions and strengthen partnerships across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

Development Updates

Preserving existing affordable housing is just as critical as building new homes. Through our rehabilitation portfolio, we are reinvesting in existing communities to ensure they remain safe, energy efficient, and affordable for current and future residents.

While several communities in our rehabilitation portfolio - including Jeffries Ridge, Tyron Grove, Sedgebrook and Avonlea - have recently reached completion, work continues at MacGregor Village, Ripley Station, Highland Village and Madison Glen. Planned upgrades will include improvements to apartment interiors, building systems, accessibility, and site infrastructure. As affordable housing properties age, strategic rehabilitation helps extend their lifespan, improving residents' quality of life.
