April is National Fair Housing Month - a time to reflect on the importance of ensuring everyone has equal access to quality, affordable housing. This mission is at the center of everything we do, from development and resident services to advocacy and partnership-building across the Triangle.

We’re encouraged to see housing affordability highlighted in Mayor Janet Cowell’s recent State of the City Address, where our Beacon Ridge property was recognized as part of Raleigh’s ongoing investment in expanding access to housing.

Further underscoring the importance of advocacy, our Senior Resident Services Coordinator Rachel Tutwiler joined Congresswoman Alma Adams, along with partners from DreamKey Partners and Self-Help Credit Union in Washington D.C. earlier this spring for Housing Partnership Network’s Advocacy Day - working to advance policies that expand access to affordable housing.

We are also pleased to share that we were recently awarded a NeighborWorks America Flexible Impact Grant of $499,000, to be received in FY26, supporting our continued efforts to expand and strengthen affordable housing across our region.

Read on for the latest industry updates and homeowner stories from across our communities.

We're proud to be part of the NeighborWorks America network, a partnership that continues to expand access to affordable housing and economic opportunity across our state.

In FY25, NeighborWorks' contributions helped us support 57 families achieve homeownership, 387 community members receive housing counseling and education, and contributed to the repair of 2,963 homes. This work also supported the creation and retention of over 1,000 jobs.

Together, we’re building stronger, more equitable communities - one home at a time.

When the Catri family relocated to the Triangle, they were searching for something many families hope for - an affordable home where their children could flourish. Like many first-time buyers, they quickly found the market challenging, with few options that fit their budget.

Through our partnership with Raleigh Area Land Trust, the Catri family was able to find and purchase a home that met their needs and allowed them to stay in their community.

“Finding a home that we could afford in our area seemed impossible,” they shared. “But because of RALT and DHIC, we've been given an opportunity that we wouldn't have had otherwise.”

If you’re ready to explore your own path to homeownership, our Homeownership Center is here to help. Start with a one-on-one counseling session to understand your options and take the next step with confidence.
