Building affordable housing is only part of the equation. We see firsthand that creating stable communities means investing not only in the homes we develop, but also in the people who live in them.

That's why our Resident Services team works alongside property management staff and community partners to connect residents with programs and resources that support long-term stability and well-being. Whether it's youth programming, health and financial wellness, senior engagement, or community-building events, these services help ensure our communities are places where residents can thrive, not just live.

This month, our Resident Services team brought that mission to life by hosting a community resource fair at Hardee Street, a Community Wellness Day at the Village at Washington Terrace, and a fresh produce distribution at Glenbrook Crossing, connecting hundreds of residents with food, health resources, and opportunities to build stronger connections with their neighbors.

Next month, that momentum continues as several of our Raleigh communities come together to celebrate National Night Out, an annual event that brings neighbors, local organizations, and first responders together to strengthen community relationships and promote safer, connected neighborhoods.

Industry News

The newly released 2025 Point-in-Time Count highlights the growing need for affordable housing across North Carolina.

While homelessness declined nationally, North Carolina saw a 33.4% increase from the previous year - the largest percentage increase in the country - with more than 15,500 people experiencing homelessness on a single night in January 2025. The report points to a combination of rising housing costs, a shortage of affordable homes, and disaster-related displacement following Tropical Storm Helene.

These findings are an important reminder that expanding access to affordable housing is critical to helping individuals and families achieve long-term stability. We're proud to be part of that solution by developing and preserving affordable homes that make housing an option for more members of our community.

Meet DHIC Intern, Isaiah 👋

This summer, we were excited to welcome Isaiah, a rising senior at UNC-Chapel Hill, as our Development Intern!

Inspired by his own experiences and a desire to create meaningful change through real estate, Isaiah shared that his internship gave him a firsthand look at how affordable housing transforms lives and communities. We're grateful for the contributions he made during his time with us and look forward to seeing all he accomplishes in the future.
