In the Oscar-winning 1950 film “All About Eve,” Bette Davis wasn’t talking about hurricane season 2025 when she uttered that famous line, “Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy night” – but she could have been.
The Atlantic hurricane season started this past Sunday, June 1, and forecasters are once more predicting a busier-than-usual one.
That’s due to a number of factors, but, honestly, none of them really matters from where we are sitting here in South Louisiana. Whether the meteorology wonks predict a busy season or an easy-breezy one, it is incumbent upon us as residents of a coastal community to be ready, come what may.
That means stocking up on canned red beans, water and batteries; getting that trusty old generator in working order; and generally battening down the hatches – whatever that means for you and your family.
It’s a dance we are quite accustomed to here at St. Tammany Health System. That’s because we practice it all year round. We must be ready to care for our community during hurricane season, but also during flu season, football season, Carnival season, festival season, the holiday season and all points in between.
We take that responsibility seriously. As past experience has taught us, a prepared health system is an effective health system, and our Northshore community deserves nothing less from us.
So, rest assured, neighbors: We are ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at us this hurricane season. We urge you to prepare, too – and to do so now, before there’s a run on Spam and fizzy waters.
Once you have that in shape, we hope you will enjoy perusing this month’s collection of headlines from our St. Tammany Health System newsroom.
Thank you for reading – and thank you, as always, for trusting St. Tammany Health System with your family’s healthcare.
