Hot off the presses

Hungry? After seeing the cover of our most recent issue of Heart to Heart magazine and reading the accompanying story, we sure are.

We’re also quite satisfied.

That’s because it features Chef Gavin Jobe of Meribo in Covington, who was participating in the latest installment of the quarterly Eat Well, Live Well cooking demonstration series co-hosted by Healthier Northshore.

That group, near and dear to our hearts, is a coalition of like-minded community stakeholders founded in part by St. Tammany Health System with the goal of improving local population health metrics.

It hit a homerun last spring when it planted a community garden on the Safe Haven campus in Mandeville. The Eat Well, Live Well series is a beautifully conceived outgrowth of that project, and we hope you enjoy Chef Gavin’s recipe – and a couple of lagniappe recipes we threw in for fun – on page 8 and 9.

It’s just one of the stories you’ll find in this latest issue.

By now, you’ve probably received a hard copy in your mailbox. If not, you can find a digital version in our online newsroom – or just swing by our flagship St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington or one of our clinics throughout the community and pick up a complimentary copy.

And if you just can’t get enough, you can find a collection of additional St. Tammany Health System headlines below.

However you choose to catch up on the latest STHS news, thanks as always for coming along with us on this journey – and thank you for trusting us to deliver world-class care close to home to you and your family.

All-in for autism awareness

With five of our facilities designated Certified Autism Centers, it’s clear that autism awareness is a big deal for us here at STHS. So, before we bid farewell to April – which is Autism Awareness Month – we wanted one more time to recognize our friends, neighbors and family member with autism and to talk about how a little acceptance goes a long, long way.

Leading the way

In an effort to increase procedural precision and efficiency while decreasing patient anxiety, St. Tammany Health System’s Women’s Pavilion recently introduced to the Northshore a Hologic prone stereotactic breast biopsy system, its newest piece of leading-edge hardware.

It is one of just two such systems in use in the region.

“As the Northshore’s premiere destination for breast care, St. Tammany Health System’s Women’s Pavilion is dedicated to providing our patients with the most advanced care possible but also the most comfortable experience possible,” said Tiffany Raiford, the health system’s director of Imaging Services. “This new Hologic system accomplishes that beautifully. Our previous biopsy system did the job fine. This one just does it better.”

The man behind THE Gala

In the beginning, it was personal for Kevin Gardner. It still is, quite frankly. But the small cancer fundraiser he and business partner Mike Ford started almost a decade and a half ago to honor their mothers has grown to become much more.

31 for 31

Recently, St. Tammany Health System’s Talent Acquisition Team was challenged to hire 31 nurses in 31 days. The ‘small but mighty’ team of five people wasn’t just up to that challenge. They blew it out of the water, bringing on 50 new hires.
