Hello Gavilan community, here we are at the end of the Fall 2020 semester. A historic, exhausting, emotional semester of change with renewed purpose. We each have learned tremendous, unanticipated lessons. We have supported each other, motivated each other, and have felt sadness with each other. 2020 is about over, and will forever be remembered as the year the world changed. As you finish your final exams and prepare for the holiday season, please know that all of us at Gavilan are wishing the best for you and your families and join you in looking forward to a safe and healthy 2021.
As we complete the first academic semester of the year, we will be evaluating our work to determine if there are any gaps in our services that need to be addressed before the start of the spring semester. Throughout the pandemic we have been providing enhanced mental health services, food and housing insecurity support, tech tools, peer mentoring and much, much more. The college has a good sense of how to provide outreach services, academic support, and a guided pathways leadership structure to achieve improved student success outcomes. However, we are a continuously improving institution in a very diverse district. We serve through an equity lens and are always discovering small changes that yield big results for our students.
If you have ideas, thoughts, suggestions or comments, please feel free to reach out to me directly at krose@gavilan.edu. I will make sure the right members of our campus community are a part of a solution-oriented discussion. As we move into our second full semester in a digital environment, I know our strength at Gavilan is demonstrated by the quality of relationships we maintain with one another. Let’s make 2021 a memorable year as well, highlighted by our renewed purpose to serve our students, support one another, and continue feeling pride in our community.
Happy Holidays to each of you, and Happy New Year!
