What's Happening at St. Luke

From the Principal's Desk

Dear St. Luke School Families,

It has been an exciting few weeks at St. Luke as we have settled into the new school year and welcomed the change of season. Our students have been doing great things and it has been a joy going into classrooms and visiting Waldron Hall during lunch.

Shortly after kicking off our Walk-a-thon and fall sports season, our preschool classes spent a lot of time in what we hope to become an outdoor classroom. While experiencing and learning using the outdoors, the students also had an opportunity to paint while swinging on a tire swing. The smiles on their faces as they swung while painting made the experience well worth the preparation. Thank you to Mrs. Colagrossi, Mrs. Mathes, Mrs. Wirkiowski, and Mrs. Serpico for making this experience possible.

Throughout the first few weeks of the year, discussions amongst the staff related to school goals has revolved around spreading kindness and reinforcing manners. We are hoping to encourage all of our students, as well as faculty and staff to set personal goals for Random Acts of Kindness. This can be as simple as picking up a piece of trash we see on the floor or holding the door for someone else. Doing little things to benefit a fellow classmate or our school community as a whole makes St. Luke a better place. We also want our students to be mindful of the fact that a simple "please” and “thank you” goes a long way as does making eye contact with others while speaking with them. These simple gestures truly make a difference and can be easily forgotten in the busyness of our day.

Lastly, this past Sunday, October 2, was a special day for all at St. Luke as our Social Studies teacher, Mr. James Bratager, was enrolled by Bishop Manz as a candidate for the diaconate for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Mr. Bratager spent the last year in the aspirancy year of formation to discern if he had a vocation to holy orders by way of the diaconate. After an intense year of study, theological reflection, pastoral ministry experiences, human and personal development, Mr. Bratager was affirmed by the Institute of Diaconal Studies in May 2022. Please join me in congratulating Mr. Bratager and continue to keep him in your prayers as he continues on his path of discernment to confirm his vocation.

As we close in on the final days of our 2022 Walk-a-thon, I want to thank you for your continued support of St. Luke School. I look forward to a great month ahead and seeing many of you at our Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 20 and our Trunk or Treat night on October 28.

Sincerely,

Mr. Andrew DiMarco
