Dear Parents and Guardians,
Today our students took part in a lock down drill conducted by the Middletown Police Department. The timing of the drill was done to coincide with the kindergarten and middle school students eating lunch in the parish center and grades 1 and 2 outside at recess. Upon the call of Lock Down all students in the parish center and at recess moved to the correct designated area. The drill was a success and I am proud of the students and staff. The drill also pointed out that the use of hand held radios would be a better means of communication with personnel on recess duty than the school intercom system. I will look into the purchase of good handheld radios for use at the school. Another solution would be to wire and mount speakers on the outside of the school which would give people outside the ability to hear the school intercom system.
Our students have completed the Iowa testing and all answer sheets have been mailed for scoring. I will be sending home the individual results when they come in. We should receive the test results in a few weeks.
Last Friday the 8th grade enjoyed their field trip to New York City. They visited Radio City, Times Square and had a great ride on a fast speed boat. This week they will visit the Knights of Columbus Museum in New Haven to tour the WWI exhibit.
The 4th grade travelled to Hartford today to visit the Legislative Office Building and the State Capital building.
Our school drama club will perform Willy Wonka tonight and Saturday night at 7:00 PM in the Mercy High School Auditorium. The students have been working hard in rehearsal and I know the show will be a great success. Tickets can be purchased at the door. This is a great way to enjoy a night out and support the school.
I would like to remind all of you that we will be attending the 9:00 AM Mass as a school at St. John's in Middletown on Sunday, May 20, 2018. Our very own Mrs. Kelly will be the cantor for the Mass. I look forward to having you join us on that day.
I wish all our mothers a very special and Happy Mothers Day! Please enjoy your week.

May God continue to bless you and your families,

Mr. Larry Fitzgerald, Principal
