Dear Cathedral Community,

This week, we are drawn into a moment of deep expectation and sacred affirmation in Luke 3:15-17, 21-22. The people, hungry for hope, looked to John the Baptist, wondering if he might be the Messiah. But John, in humility, pointed them—and us—toward Jesus, the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Imagine that moment: the heavens opening, the Spirit descending like a dove, and a voice proclaiming, "You are my Son, the Beloved; with you, I am well pleased." It’s a scene brimming with love, affirmation, and the promise of God’s presence breaking into our lives.

As I sit with this passage, I wonder if you, like me, sometimes feel caught in the questions, the longing, and the waiting that filled the hearts of the people by the Jordan River. Life can often feel uncertain, and it’s easy to question where we belong or whether we are seen and loved.

But here’s the good news: just as God spoke those words to Jesus, God speaks them to each of us. “You are my child, my beloved. With you, I am well pleased.” These are not just words for a distant Messiah—they are for you, right where you are, in the joys and struggles of your daily life.

I see this truth reflected in the ways we show up for one another in our Cathedral community. Whether it’s welcoming a new face, offering a listening ear, or serving those in need, these moments of connection remind me of the Spirit moving among us, calling us to be people of hope and light in a world that desperately needs both.

This week, I invite you to take a moment to rest in the knowledge of God’s love for you. Let that love shape how you see yourself and others. And as we continue to journey together, let us lean into our calling as a community to reflect that same love to the world around us.

You are God’s beloved. You matter deeply. And together, we are part of something beautiful—God’s unfolding story of hope and transformation.

In love and grace,

The Rev. Timothy M. Kingsley
