Dear Cathedral Community,
What a year 2024 has been! My heart overflows with gratitude for the countless ways you, the faithful members of this community, have given your time, energy, and love to St. Mark’s. To all our volunteers and the steadfast leadership of our Council and Vestry—thank you.
As we look to 2025, we are invited into a season of imagination and discovery, embracing who we are as God’s beloved people. Together, we will lean into our identity as part of God’s creation and God’s Church, discerning the path forward as we begin the sacred work of calling a new Dean to walk alongside us on this journey of faith.
Elections:
Because of changes earlier this year and a special parish meeting in June, there are no Vestry positions open at this time. Next year’s Annual Meeting will include elections for four Vestry positions.
This year’s elections, on January 26th, 2025, will focus on the Executive Committee, as these positions have one-year terms.
The current Executive Committee members running for re-election are:
-
Gina Christ, Senior Warden
-
John Satterberg, Junior Warden
-
Brian Myers, Treasurer
-
Drisana Iverson, Clerk
We are accepting nominations for the Executive Committee through Monday, January 6th, 2025. If you feel called to serve, please send your name, the position you are running for, and a brief bio (5-8 lines) to governance@ourcathedral.org.
Annual Meeting:
The Annual Meeting will be held on January 26th, 2025, following a single service at 10:00 AM in the Nave. After the meeting, we will share a meal together in the Community Room—an opportunity to connect and celebrate our shared life in Christ.
This year’s meeting will include:
-
Steps for forming the Search Committee for our next Dean.
- A report from the Finance Team on 2024 financials and the 2025 Budget.
- An update from the Governance Committee on their work with our Constitution and Bylaws.
Transition Update:
The Vestry has engaged Holy Cow Consulting to conduct a survey to help us better understand who we are as a community and where God is leading us. This survey, which has been used by St. Mark’s twice in the past 15 years, will provide valuable insights. It will take about 30-45 minutes to complete, and both electronic and paper versions will be available. Your participation will ensure the results truly reflect the heart of this community.
At the Annual Meeting, we will also open nominations for the Dean’s Search Committee, with nominations accepted through February 18, 2025. The Executive Committee will form a team of about eight members, representing the diverse voices and gifts of St. Mark’s. While not everyone can serve on the committee, we are committed to keeping the community updated on its work through the Vestry Voice, updates between services, and conversations with related committees and groups.
January Roundtable Discussions:
In the weeks leading up to the Holy Cow survey, we will gather for a series of Roundtable Discussions on Wednesdays—January 15th, 22nd, and 29th. These gatherings will help us reflect on our experiences at St. Mark’s and how they shape our relationship with God, our connection to one another, and our call to serve the world in Christ’s name.
I am deeply thankful for the ways you live out your faith at St. Mark’s and beyond. As we step into this new year, may we continue to discern God’s call for our community with open hearts and steadfast hope.
Yours in Christ,
The Rev. Timothy M. Kingsley
Provost
