From the Rector
In this Sunday’s Gospel, our Risen Lord opens the minds of his disciples. Namely, he opens their minds to see his Resurrected Body – to see who he is in light of the Resurrection and who they (who we) ought to be in this world in response to this glorious event. Who we and all disciples need to be can be extracted from our Risen Lord’s words and actions, starting with his greeting: “Peace be with you.”
As his disciples, we are invited to follow in our Risen Lord actions: offer his peace, make his Body known, and share in the breaking of the bread. The chief way the Church is invited to emulate our Risen Lord’s actions is in the celebration of the sacred mysteries, the holy sacrifice of the mass. That which, in the words of Dom Gregory Dix, OSB, “week by week and month by month, on a hundred thousand successive Sundays, faithfully, unfailingly, across all the parishes of Christendom, the [people of God] have done.”
In the primordial act of taking, blessing, breaking, and sharing bread, we participate in our Lord’s Resurrection. In the mass, we encounter our Risen Lord just as his first disciples – he is absolute yet mysteries, tangible yet numinous. And it is through this act – the taking, blessing, breaking, and sharing of bread – that we encounter our Risen Lord over and over again. It is through this act that we receive his peace, touch and behold his Body, and share in the heavenly banquet. The good news is that this sacred pattern did not come to an end when our Risen Lord ascended into heaven. Instead, it spread to all nations beginning from Jerusalem.
Yours in Our Risen Lord,
Fr de la Torre

Art and Faith Eastertide Formation Series begins April 14
Come join us for a 3-week series following the Solemn High Mass where we’ll explore how visual art can deepen our spiritual understanding of what it means to be an Easter people who worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. A light lunch will be provided.
April 14: Art, Ambiguity, and Resurrection
That Jesus rose from the dead is plain, but even the disciples themselves struggle with Jesus’ post-Resurrection appearances. Using the meditations offered in three distinct paintings we’ll reflect on how Jesus is calling each of us to live into his Resurrection today.
April 21: Our Lady of Chicago
Professor Matthew Milliner, an art historian who teaches at Wheaton College, will present a talk on appearances of Marian imagery in Chicago. Prof. Milliner is the author of a 4-part series of articles about local Marian images. Click on the following links to read part 1, part 2, part 3, and part 4.
April 28: He Ascended in Heaven
Often in fine art, the Resurrection and Ascension are depicted in a single moment. We’ll view paintings—that you can even visit in person in Chicago—to uncover and understand themes of the Ascension and its meaning for us.

Expanded Columbarium Survey
Hopefully by now you have already received a letter explaining some of the exploratory work being done to expand our columbarium space indoors. With that survey is a short survey inviting your feedback and interest in the project. Whether or not you have made plans for when you depart from this life, we hope you will complete the survey. Your feedback is essential to this project. You can complete the paper survey you received in the mail and return it to the church to the attention of Mtr. Murphy-Gill. Or, you can fill out the survey online.
Read a PDF of the columbarium letter here.

The Prayers of the People
As part of our Sunday offering of the Mass, we bring to God our petitions and thanksgivings. As a community, we do this by bidding the parish’s intentions in the Prayers of the People. If you wish to have someone added to the Prayers of the People, please email Father de la Torre or Mother Murphy-Gill. You can also fill out the prayer request form in the link below. Names will remain on the prayer list for three weeks, unless otherwise requested.
Lord, hear the prayers of thy people; and what we have asked faithfully, grant that we may obtain effectually, to the glory of thy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
