New Weekday Mass Schedule

Be present, be present, O Jesus, our great High Priest,

as you were present with your disciples,

and be known to us in the breaking of bread.

On Monday, February 19, we instituted a new weekday Mass schedule. We hope you will make our new weekday Mass schedule part of your Lenten journey.

12 p.m. on Monday & Friday

8 a.m. on Tuesday & Thursday

6:30 p.m. on Wednesday

From the Rector

If you visit another Episcopal Church in a matter of minutes - and in some places, in a matter of seconds - you will spot differences and similarities between our parishes. Even if you attend another Anglo-Catholic parish, you too will notice similarities and differences. This diversity in worship is a visible reminder that we as Catholic Christians are not bound by common ceremony and ritual, but by our membership in the Body of Christ and our worship of the Holy and Undivided Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

I rejoice in the fact that our unity has space for differences and similarities, and that in her wisdom, the Church calls us all each Lent and Holy Week – regardless of churchmanship, to use the old colloquial term – to intimately ponder our Lord’ Passion, Death, and Resurrection. Each year, our Holy Week ceremonies and rituals transport us to Jerusalem and move us on a journey from the Upper Room, to Calvary, to the Empty Tomb. And each parish, especially a parish like Ascension, has a particular and profound way to enact and offer these Holy Week liturgies.

As this is my first Holy Week at Ascension, I look forward to embracing the ceremonies and rituals of this place. As well as sharing the ceremonies and rituals which I have been forged in, in parishes also steeped in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. As you make your plans for the rest of March, please see below our full Holy Week schedule and mark your calendars.

Fr. de la Torre

Palm Sunday

Because He First Loved Us: Holy Week for Families w/Children

Saturday, March 23 | 10-11:30AM

Households with young children are invited to journey through a “mini” Holy Week, in preparation of this most important week in the Church year. Through interactive activities, crafts, and mutual learning, families will experience the power and glory of Holy Week. We will begin by entering Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, learn about our Lord’s institution of the Eucharist and his command that we love one another, walk the way of the Cross, and receive the light of Christ. Snacks and lunch will be provided for the entire family. We hope to see you there!

In order to offer this programming, we need at least two families to sign up. Please confirm your attendance by registering here: https://forms.gle/mxregL2ULx3HULo5A

Young Adults Chrys' Closet Work Day

Saturday, March 16 | 9 - 11 a.m.

This Saturday, young adults are invited to a special workday at Chrys' Closet in conjunction with a cohort of young adults from Atonement in Edgewater. Come help sort and fold items in preparation for the free shop for recently arrived migrants and enjoy fellowship with our neighbors to the north. A light continental breakfast will be set out at 8:30 and be available during the work hours as well as snacks throughout the morning.

Saint Chrysostom's Lenten Breakfast

Tuesday, March 19 | 9 a.m.

St. Chrys' has invited Ascension to join them for their traditional Lenten breakfast next Tuesday. Mtr. Murphy-Gill will be facilitating a conversation on Holy Solitude, which many members have been reading and studying throughout Lent. You may recall that we used this same book in our Lenten formation series two years ago. But you need not have read the book (or recall it) to join. Your company is enough. (Typically, this breakfast is hosted and attended by women, but men are certainly invited as well.)

To join, please call, text or email Liz Kohlbeck (920-254-4735; elizabethkohlbeck@yahoo.com).

Missing your prized casserole dish?

There are a number of items that have been left behind in our church kitchen: baking pans, casserole dishes, etc. Please retrieve any items that may be yours by noon on Sunday, March 17. Any unclaimed items will be donated to Chrys' Closet. You will find your items on the white unit next to the stove.

Easter Flowers

Thursday, Mar 21st, before 3 p.m.

This is the LAST DAY to submit Easter Flower memorials/thanksgivings cards to the Church Office for inclusion in the Easter Day bulletin.

Consider being a Coffee Hour host

There are spots available for hosting Coffee Hour after either Sunday Mass! Look for the new MAY & JUNE sign-up sheets in Wheeler Hall.

If you are leary of what hosting a Coffee Hour might entail, speak to Hospitality Committee members Josh or Ellie Simpson, David Reeves, LaVerne Saunders or Carol Noren. They will be glad to help.

The Prayers of the People

As part of our Sunday offering of the Mass, we bring to God our petitions and thanksgivings. As a community, we do this by bidding the parish’s intentions in the Prayers of the People. If you wish to have someone added to the Prayers of the People, please email Father de la Torre or Mother Murphy-Gill. You can also fill out the prayer request form in the link below. Names will remain on the prayer list for three weeks, unless otherwise requested.

Lord, hear the prayers of thy people; and what we have asked faithfully, grant that we may obtain effectually, to the glory of thy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
