As of September 13th, we will have one service at 9am.
Thanks to everyone who completed the online survey about service times and formation programs. After reading through all the data and carefully weighing the options, we have decided to move our Sunday service to 9am and have the formation program immediately afterwards at 10am. We will remain outside on the lawn as long as the weather lets us. This will be a trial run to see how the new schedule works, so please feel free to provide me with any feedback.
Our first formation program has been developed by our Kensington Compass Center team, and is entitled "Navigating the New Abnormal". Each week, we will consider some facet of how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our lives. This week, for example, the theme is "I don't recognize my life anymore". It is intended to be intergenerational. So bring some coffee or a snack, and please stick around after the service. For those joining remotely, the formation program will be available via Zoom. Feel free to use the first 15 minutes or so after the service for online fellowship while we get ready to start the program.
The next formation program (probably beginning in late October or early November) will be all about bishops. Since we are electing one in December to replace Bishop Lee, we thought it would be helpful to discuss what bishops do, why we have them, and what we're looking for in our next one. Those discussions will also help our clergy and lay delegates when it comes time to vote.
For the younger children, we will be trying a new program on the first Sunday of each month. During the first half of the service (i.e. until the Peace), one of our volunteers will be reading age-appropriate Bible stories and leading a conversation about what they mean.
For the youth Confirmation class, please watch for an email I'll be sending to the parents/guardians separately to discuss our plans.
P.S. You still have time to bring shelf-stable food items for the BEDS Plus collection!
