Rector, St. Columba's Episcopal Church, Washington, DC
Dear People of St. Columba’s,

It gives me no joy to report that I have accepted the resignation of our Director of Youth Ministry, Donald “D.C.” Veale, effective immediately. D.C. exercised poor judgment in the facilitation of the first SCAP meeting and, in so doing, broke the trust necessary to be an effective youth minister both for me and many youth and their families. We believe that it is best to part ways.

To those who have been hurt by this experience, I am sorry. It is my highest priority at all times to ensure that each and all of us experience St. Columba’s as a safe and nourishing place for us to be together in community, that we may grow in faith and in love of God and one another.

I will coordinate with our Youth Council, co-chaired by Heather Jones and Keri Piester, and with Amy Molina-Moore, Associate Rector for Family Ministry, to ensure a smooth and vibrant continuation of all aspects of our youth ministry. We will be in touch directly with youth and their families with details pertaining to J2A, SCAP, and all youth ministries. There may be need for your support so stay tuned. Please direct questions or concerns to youth@columba.org.

May God continue to guide us and bless us along our way.

Peace!
The Rev. Ledlie I. Laughlin, Rector
