Dear Fellow Parishioners:

We are writing with great pleasure to let you know that the Vestry has called the Rev. C. Neal Goldsborough to serve as our Interim Rector, beginning on January 1, 2027.

Neal has deep experience in ministry and in service to our country. St. Paul’s will be his fourth interim rector assignment, having served as an interim at Christ Church, Glen Allen, VA; Emmanuel Church in Greenwood, VA; and at St. Paul’s Memorial Church in Charlottesville, VA.

Prior to his interim callings, Neal was Rector at Christ Church Pensacola, Florida, from 2008-2015; at St. John’s Church in Barrington, Rhode Island, from 2001-2008; and at St. Luke’s Church in Alexandria, Virginia, from 1991-2001.

Beyond these leadership experiences, Neal served as a Chaplain and Captain in the US Navy Reserve (Retired) from 1986 to 2009. He was involuntarily recalled to active duty from January to December 2005, where he served as chaplain to a tent hospital in Kuwait, receiving casualties from Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Neal has held numerous positions in national church service and at the diocesan level, and has served on multiple boards of trustees and foundation boards. Most recently, he served on the Board of Trustees of Virginia Theological Seminary for over 15 years, and has been invited to remain on the board as a Trustee Emeritus. Neal holds a certificate from the Association for Intentional Interim Ministry and a Master of Divinity from VTS, where he was class president.

Most importantly, the Vestry was moved by Neal’s commitment to pastoral care, his warmth and sense of humor, and his experience in building compassionate and cohesive staffs and communities. We hope you will join us in welcoming Neal and Carol, his wife of fifty-one years, and their Norwich terrier, Miss Scarlet, to St. Paul’s at the beginning of next year.

Faithfully,
