Over 50% of Americans have been vaccinated. This is a tribute to America's ability to produce vaccines as well as our compliance with its distribution. We have been patient. We have waited in lines, called health agencies till our phones were dead and woke up at the break of dawn to schedule vaccine appointments. We're tired. We have COVID fatigue.
My message is to stay the course a little longer. Let's not lose the great strides we've earned up to now. Know that when you wear the mask, you are not only protecting others but also your family. Like I said, 50% have been vaccinated. The other 50% may have our last name. Don't give up on the guidelines....they work.

HB 279: Enhanced Penalties for Criminal Offenses
|
|
As one of Commissioner Sachs' legislative initiatives to help resolve the targeted burglaries of our fire rescue personnel personal property and other public safety officers. The passing of HB 279 is a giant step toward solving the problem by enhancing the penalty for this heinous crime.
With the support of our local legislative delegation lead by Representative Matt Wilhite, this bill has successfully passed the House and will now need to clear the Senate with its companion bill SB 1354.
This bill Increases severity ranking of burglary offense for purposes of Criminal Punishment Code when offender enters dwelling, structure, or conveyance on law enforcement or fire department property; removes reclassification of certain felony offenses when person who commits offense crosses county line with specified intent.

Malcolm Dorman
Remembrance Week
It is my honor to sponsor a Proclamation honoring the life and contributions of the late Dr. Malcolm Dorman at the upcoming Board of County Commissioners meeting on April 20th.
April 26 – 30 of 2021 is nationally recognized as National Patient Experience Week, an annual event to celebrate healthcare heroes impacting patient care every day. It is most fitting to honor the life and work of this incredible man during this time.
Dr. Malcom Dorman was born on August 6, 1941, in Brooklynn, New York and is survived by many loving friends, family, patients, co-workers, and others who were fortunate to have known him.
In a twist of fate, when Malcolm was a young man, he was mistaken for a doctor, whisked into an operating room, and a beating heart was placed in his hands. It was at that moment that he knew he would be a doctor.
Dr. Dorman’s career encompassed an impressive roster of achievements, awards and accolades too numerous to list. Locally Dr. Dorman was the Medical Director of Cardiac Surgery JFK Medical Center where he established and directed the Valvular Heart Institute as well as served on Florida Atlantic University's Board of Trustees and FAU's Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine Advisory Board.
Dr. Dorman was the heart surgeon of choice for celebrities, CEOs, doctors, politicians and even world leaders, most likely due to the personal touch and attention he provided, such as sleeping in a patient's room following surgery or taking on high-risk patients that other doctors wouldn't or couldn't operate.
Dr. Dorman was a humble and religious man who credited his talents to “God working through his hands to make miracles.” He was a pillar of and worked tirelessly for all in our community. He will be greatly missed.
The Proclamation declaring April 26 – 30, 2021 as Dr. Malcolm Dorman Remembrance Week in Palm Beach County will be presented at a formal celebration at a future date.

Svetlana Shapshal to The Sun Sentinel

ICYMI: As reported in the local news, two members driving home to the Oaks of Boca Raton, Yury Shapshal and his son, Sam, happened upon a car overturned in a canal and jumped into action.
Shapshal pried one of the car doors open as his son dove into the car and pulled out a boy who appeared to be about Sam’s age.
Though the cause of the accident is unknown, the details did not matter - being a father of three was enough to compel this resident to act and his son followed suit.
|
|
The children pulled from the car, hailing them as heroes, while others on the shore looked on and remains of the guardrail lay in the road. They were safe thanks to the quick thinking and action of these residents.
“I decided to jump in and my son saw me go in the water and he went right behind me and I’m very proud of him for doing that,” Shapshal said. “That’s not what most 14-year-olds would do, I would imagine.”
Sam said: “I didn’t really think about it. I just went". This makes Sam a hero among us.

FRANCESCA DANIELS
Proof that Purpose
Transcends Profession, Passion, Parties.... and Even Politics
|
|
From Palm Beach Island to Boca Raton, and everywhere in between - there is nary an event where Francesca Daniels is not seen.
Francesca is the epitome of the law of attraction coupled with the idea that the universe, if you let it, works together and pulls you to exactly where you need to be when you need to be there.
A woman of finance, her life work completely funded the first Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) device seen and mandated today in most common areas around the world. Her heart called her to service as a volunteer in hospitals. Her soul drawn to the social scene where she brings such zeal in supporting local art, culture and the community at large.

Francesca on a Vespa
Il Circolo's Viaggio Italia Event
Palm Beach Island
|
|
Francesca was raised in Brooklyn, New York. She received a degree in Finance at New York University, was recruited by a major investment banking firm and transferred to Beverly Hills, California where she lived for nearly 50 years.
Francesca was the first woman licensed by the state of California as a broker-dealer. In 1971, she founded her company which provided finance and development services in the area of healthcare.
Francesca served ten years in the Emergency Department of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA where she received The President's Volunteer Service Award, an initiative of the U.S. President's Council on Service and Civic Participation. She was also certified by the Los Angeles County Probation Department as a volunteer to mentor teenagers.
As Palm Beach County's luck would have it, Francesca relocated to Boca Raton in 2016 and began her volunteer service in the Emergency Department of Boca Raton Regional Hospital and dived in to the social scene straight away.
|
|
As with all things in culture, community and business, politics often comes into play. Francesca's philosophy does not take a partisan approach. She feels strongly that politics does not matter, but policy does. Her quiet but affective influence stems from her California involvement, crossing party lines to support the greatest good grounded in sound policy.
Through profession, passion, parties and, yes, even politics, Francesca showcases how one person can transcend, be universal and bridge the gap.
