Greetings in the Risen Christ!

As we get closer to completing Phase 1A of our church redecoration project, we begin to look forward to a special Advent celebration here at the Basilica on Friday evening, December 13 at 7:00 p.m. The Archdiocesan Choir, led by Donal Noonan, will present an inspiring musical program in the church, which will be followed by a reception downstairs. It promises to be an evening filled with joy, reflection, and a communal celebration All are welcome to attend.

On Wednesday, November 13, we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis Xavier Cabrini, the first United States Citizen to be canonized and one of eight Saints to be depicted on our re-unified Triumphal Arch (Phase 1B of our parish redecoration project). The patroness of immigrants, Mother Cabrini founded 67 institutions dedicated to care for the poor, the abandoned, the uneducated, and the sick.

The Knights of Columbus are partnering with the Midtown Assistance Center (MAC) to distribute coats to children, women, and men this winter season. Please place your coat donations in the blue barrel located in the church vestibule. The coat drive will continue through December 1. Thank you for providing warmth to our neighbors!

Peace to you in Christ Risen,

Fr. John

Historic Foundation Bricks to be used in a new welcoming portal and garden wall! $25,000 match!

In recognition of all of those who have come before us, we are designing and developing a portal or gate through which those entering the church campus from the parking lot will pass. The gate in part will include the remaining foundation bricks we have recovered. and will be built at the east entrance to Sacred Heart Way.

Donations matched!

Much of this development will be made possible through the generosity of an anonymous donor; your donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $25,000. So, $25,000 in donations becomes $50,000 with the gift match. Instead of continuing to sell individual bricks, we will solicit donations for the welcoming portal and garden wall. The Spanish language community of the Basilica will continue to lead this effort. Their efforts will be recognized with the installation of the Mother Cabrini emblem in the Triumphal Arch.

Donate here to the welcoming entrance and garden wall!

Advance Giving starts November 18

All proceeds collected this year will benefit two of our Outreach Ministries: Night Shelter Ministry and Thursday Sack Lunch Ministry for people experiencing homelessness.

May this #GivingTuesday prompt us to gratitude and generosity, that brings nourishment to the hungry and hope to the hopeless. We pray that #iGiveCatholic may be a miracle of loaves and fishes, where every gift shared lovingly from a grateful heart becomes bread for the multitudes, and the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

Open House - November 13

To continue our ongoing recruitment drive, the Basilica Council invites the men of the Parish to an Open House at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13 in the Basilica's Atrium. We will serve a light meal with beverages and provide information on the advantages of membership in the Knights of Columbus. It's necessary to reserve a seat - please call, text or email Russ Ford at: rlfordga@gmail.com or 706-819-8391

Inspired to get involved with the Knights of Columbus? We are recruiting men to join us in the many good works we perform for the parish and the community at large. Our Council allows like-minded Catholic men to live out their faith through fellowship and action. We should point out that the Knights of Columbus focus on the family. In many instances, wives, children, and other family members are welcome to participate in our events and activities. Children can benefit from working with their parents on charitable projects and can fulfill community service requirements at their schools. For more information, contact Patrick Waldron at waldronp@hotmail.com or cell 571-643-2894.

Serve Haiti

We have been blessed, we live in a country where we can easily see a doctor, turn on the tap for clean water, travel freely and graduate from high school. It is not that way in Haiti. But ServeHAITI, which started right here at Sacred Heart, is making a difference for folks in Grand-Bois, Haiti.

Still standing and still serving despite gang violence, hurricanes, earthquakes and COVID in recent years; ServeHAITI is the little engine that continues making a major difference in the rural Grand-Bois region of Haiti. In recent years events in Haiti have been especially challenging and yet ServeHAITI’s St. Vincent De Paul Clinic is busier now than ever. More folks have left the cities and moved to the countryside to escape gang violence; our patient population has increased.

Please support ServeHAITI now, during our Annual Fundraiser as a Sponsor or Contributor or Attendee at our Fun Fundraiser Brunch on Nov. 17. Your help is greatly appreciated by ServeHAITI and the People of Grand Bois.
