Greetings in the Risen Christ!

Now is the time to register your deceased loved ones in our All Souls Novena before the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls' Day, Nov. 2) so that we can remember and commemorate them in our special Novena of Masses November 2 - 10. Click on this link to do so now: sacredheartatlanta.org/all-souls-novena/.

This Saturday, October 19, we celebrate the Feast Day of the North American Martyrs, canonized by Pope Pius IX in 1930.

In the face of extreme suffering and hardship, these brave Frenchmen met violent deaths while serving God and the Church in remote areas of eastern Canada and New York state. They became known as the North American Martyrs.

  • Father John de Brebeuf (1593-1649)
  • Father Noël Chabanel (1613-1649)
  • Father Antony Daniel (1601-1648)
  • Father Charles Garnier (1606-1649)
  • Oblate René Goupil (1608-1642)
  • Father Isaac Jogues (1607-1646)
  • Oblate John de Lalande (died 1646)
  • Father Gabriel Lalemant (1610-1649)

Their zeal, courage and willingness to sacrifice to the point where they laid down their lives to witness for Jesus is a shining star on the North American continent and in the Church.

Join us for a Eucharistic Holy Hour next Wednesday, October 23 in O'Hagan Parish Hall (following the 12:10 p.m. Mass). Let us honor the real presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist as an act of reparation to the so-called Black Mass being held in Atlanta on Friday, October 25. Archbishop Gregory is calling on all Catholics of the Archdiocese of Atlanta to face this attack to our faith through prayer, penance and prayers of reparation. We commend our efforts to the Lord through the loving intercession of Mary, the Mother of God. All are welcome to attend.

Peace to you in Christ Risen,

Fr. John

Rector/Pastor

Historic Foundation Bricks to be used in a new welcoming portal and garden wall! $25,000 match!

In recognition of all of those who have come before us, we are designing and developing a portal or gate through which those entering the church campus from the parking lot will pass. The gate in part will include the remaining foundation bricks we have recovered. This portal will be dedicated to all of those who have come before us. The portal and garden wall will be built at the east entrance to Sacred Heart Way.

Donations matched!

Much of this development will be made possible through the generosity of an anonymous donor; your donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $25,000. So, $25,000 in donations becomes $50,000 with the gift match. Instead of continuing to sell individual bricks, we will solicit donations for the welcoming portal and garden wall. The Spanish language community of the Basilica will continue to lead this effort. Their efforts will be recognized with the installation of the Mother Cabrini emblem in the Triumphal Arch.

Knights of Columbus

Knights of Columbus Council Kicks-off Recruitment Drive

This weekend, members of the Basilica Council will make short presentations after all Masses to urge men of the parish to consider membership in the Knights of Columbus. Then, on the following weekend (October 26 and 27), Council members will be available after all weekend Masses to answer questions regarding the Knights of Columbus and to invite men of the parish to attend an open house on Wednesday, November 13.

Knights of Columbus Host Trivia Night at El Matador Mexican Restaurant

On Saturday, October 26, area Knights of Columbus are hosting their popular Trivia Night at the El Matador Mexican Restaurant, 4316 Chamblee Tucker Rd, Tucker, Georgia. Proceeds will benefit the Warriors to Lourdes Program, which funds travel to the Lourdes Shrine in France to facilitate spiritual, physical and emotional healing of armed forces members and veterans.  A private room is set aside for us, Trivia Night begins at 7:30 PM, and the cost is $10 per seat. Meals are available before the event starts, and snacks and beverages are available during the event. The restaurant has pledged to donate a percentage of meals, snacks, and beverages sold to the total proceeds raised.

Inspired to get involved with the Knights of Columbus? We are recruiting men to join us in the many good works we perform for the parish and the community at large. Our Council allows like-minded Catholic men to live out their faith through fellowship and action. We should point out that the Knights of Columbus focus on the family. In many instances, wives, children, and other family members are welcome to participate in our events and activities. Children can benefit from working with their parents on charitable projects and can fulfill community service requirements at their schools. For more information, contact Patrick Waldron at waldronp@hotmail.com or cell 571-643-2894.
