As energy - or chi - flows and circles through and around everything, in the world, our front door, or the mouth of chi, is the portal for inviting that abundance into our spaces. Nurturing chi is the backbone of Feng Shui, empowering our lives, relationships, and all areas of the bagua. A great front door makes all the difference.

Our front door is a reflection of how were are seen in the public eye and neighborhood. When our front entrance is welcoming and open we are inviting positive energy and opportunities. On the flip side if the landscaping is overgrown with obstacles in the pathway it can be viewed as a metaphor for obstacles in our lives. We cannot reach our goals as easily because of the negative Chi created by a stagnant or blocked front door and entrance.

There are many options today for a front door. In Feng Shui it is important your front door is solid, secure and private. I feel it is a personal choice depending on where you reside and your personal style.

If your front door is not visible from the street due to the layout of your home/property or due to elemental issues such as landscaping, how do you invite that nurturing chi into your life?

Q: Please describe your very first coming into awareness about Feng Shui.

A: I read a magazine article about a hot air balloon company in San Diego that had tons of business but was losing money. The story told about how their feng shui consultant came in and pointed out that there was a roof leak over the bathroom which was in the Wealth gua, as well as a dripping faucet and a running toilet. The consultant told them they were not paying attention to details and recommended they call someone to fix the roof and plumbing. They did, and when the time came to write the repair person, their office manager was out to lunch, so they had to sit down and write the check themselves. When they did, they saw that she had been skimming money out of their bank account for years. My thoughts were: 1) What is feng shui? and 2) What is a Wealth gua? This was so long ago there was no internet. I had a hard time tracking down books about feng shui back then, but I was determined.
