We congratulate Alex Teague, who has served 18 years here at Limoneira and most recently as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, on his retirement. We are so grateful for the years spent here by Alex, as he brought his expertise and passion for citrus to our family. He has not only helped Limoneira grow, but also mentored many of our team members and inspired them to achieve greater roles within our organization. He will continue to consult with Limoneira and supervise our expansion with our One World of Citrus™ program and guide our South American business relationships. So, even though he is officially retired, we are thrilled and grateful that he still has fervor for citrus and Limoneira, and he’ll continue to be a presence with us here at the ranch and keep active in our growth. And please make sure you make some time to relax a bit, too, Alex! |

Citrus Spotlight - Blood Oranges |

Let’s get the squeeze on this rare, special, and distinctly different citrus - the Blood Orange! Blood oranges are truly a work of art – delicious as they are unique! With a crimson, almost blood-colored flesh, the blood orange is a hybrid between the pummelo and the tangerine. Its distinctive dark flesh color is due to the presence of anthocyanins, a family of antioxidant pigments common to many flowers and fruit, but uncommon in citrus fruit. Blood oranges have a unique flavor profile compared to other oranges, being distinctly raspberry-like in addition to the usual citrus notes. What in the World - Cupid! |

As Valentine’s Day approaches, let’s meet Cupid, shall we? This ancient Roman god of love was a flying baby who really packed a punch! He’s the counterpart of the Greek god Eros and the equivalent of Amor in Latin poetry. According to myth, Cupid was the son of Mercury, the winged messenger of the gods, and Venus, the goddess of love. He often appeared as a winged infant carrying a bow and a quiver of arrows whose wounds inspired love or passion in his every victim. He was sometimes portrayed wearing armor like that of Mars, the god of war, perhaps to suggest ironic parallels between warfare and romance or to symbolize the invincibility of love. So, look up in the sky on Valentine’s Day; and if you see a baby wearing armor shooting arrows at you, either run for cover or allow yourself to be his next ‘victim’! Happy Valentine’s Day, friends!
