|
On October 8, FCHEA, the fuel cell industry, its supporters, and friends celebrated our fourth annual National Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Day.
The date of October 8 (10/08) was chosen in recognition of the atomic weight of hydrogen (1.008). National Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Day provides a platform for a nation-wide campaign to raise broader awareness of fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies.

California Air Resources Board Amends Low Carbon Fuel Standard, Will Incentivize Fuel Cell Vehicle Sales and Hydrogen Infrastructure Deployment
|
On September 27, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) - an FCHEA member - approved changes to the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) designed to widen the program's impact in reducing carbon emissions.
The amendments approved by CARB require a twenty percent reduction in the carbon "intensity" of California's transportation fuels by 2030, doubling the current requirement of ten percent by 2020. Carbon intensity is determined by the amount of carbon emitted throughout a fuel’s entire life cycle, from extraction or production to combustion.
According to CARB, the changes to the LCFS will incentivize development of additional zero emission vehicle infrastructure and sales, including fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen fueling stations. The LCFS program is implemented using a system of tradeable credits, each of which is equivalent to one metric ton of carbon. Credits are generated by producers of cleaner fuels and can be sold to producers whose product will not meet the program’s declining benchmark for carbon intensity.
The LCFS amendments also put in place the most stringent regulatory protocol in the country to set requirements for carbon capture and storage (CCS). CARB states that these amendments will take effect on January 1, 2019.

New Hydrogen Station Opens at Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells Facility in the United Kingdom
|
On September 26, FCHEA member Johnson Matthey held a grand opening for a hydrogen refueling station located at its fuel cell components manufacturing facility in Swindon, United Kingdom.
The new station, built by ITM Power, is accessible via the M4 motorway linking South Wales with London, and generates renewable-sourced hydrogen on-site via water electrolysis. This is ITM's sixth operational hydrogen station in the United Kingdom, and seventh worldwide with a location in Riverside, California.
FCHEA members Hyundai, Toyota, and Anglo American provided presentations at the event. In addition, Honda, Hyundai, and Toyota displayed their commercial fuel cell vehicle (FCV) models, which attendees were able to experience first-hand in an FCV Ride and Drive.

The Swindon station is the first of two in the United Kingdom to be deployed as part of the pan European H2ME2 project, which was funded by the European Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCHJU) and the Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).

Bloom Energy to Receive $100 Million in Project Financing from Key Equipment Finance
|
On September 27, Colorado-based Key Equipment Finance (Key) announced that it will provide $100 million in project financing for FCHEA member Bloom Energy commercial and industrial fuel cell deployments nationwide. Key has previously provided $300 million in project financing for approximately 70 Bloom Energy fuel cell deployments across the United States.
According to Bloom, the investment from Key will provide lease financing for approximately 10-15 megawatts of fuel cell power from Bloom Energy Servers. The additional financing is also expected to enable shorter term deal structures that cater to customers who are constrained or inhibited from signing long-term contracts.

Plug Power Deploys Its Third Hybrid Hydrogen Fueling Station in the United States
|
On October 11, FCHEA member Plug Power announced the deployment of its third hybrid GenFuel hydrogen fueling station for fuel cell-powered forklifts. The station is located in Cocoa, Florida, and follows the successful deployment of its first two hybrid GenFuel facilities in Texas and California.
The GenFuel hybrid fueling station includes a natural gas-fed reformer and liquid hydrogen storage. The on-site generation solution produces hydrogen via the modular reformer and utilizes stored liquid hydrogen to manage demand peaks.
In addition, the on-site hydrogen generation capability provides operational continuity throughout logistical emergencies, during which hydrogen fuel delivery may be interrupted. According to Plug Power, this attribute is critical in states like Florida, where hurricane season can have a significant impact on businesses and their customers.

Hydrogenics to Provide Fuel Cells for Heavy Duty Trucks in California
|
On September 26, FCHEA member Hydrogenics announced that it will supply six heavy-duty fuel cell power modules to the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) and TransPower for a set of Class 8 Navistar drayage trucks. The trucks are scheduled to be deployed in Southern California early next year.
According to Hydrogenics, GTI is the program manager for this project, TransPower the vehicle integrator, Navistar the chassis provider, and Total Transportation Services Inc. (TTSI) will serve as operator. Hydrogenics’ fuel cells are expected to be shipped in the fourth quarter of 2018 for integration into the trucks.
Funding for the hydrogen fuel cell trucks comes from California Climate Investments, the state's cap-and-trade program on carbon emissions managed by the California Air Resources Board.

Hexagon Composites to Supply Hydrogen Tanks to Third Automaker for Fuel Cell Vehicles
|
On October 10, FCHEA member Hexagon Composites announced that it will supply compressed hydrogen tanks to an automotive original equipment manufacturer for the production of fuel cell vehicles (FCV). This is the third automaker that Hexagon will supply hydrogen tanks to.
According to Hexagon, the tanks for the latest OEM are currently under development to support anticipated production activities as early as the 2020 time frame. Production is planned to run for at least five years. Hexagon estimates the combined value for development and serial production to be in the range of $50 million to $70 million.

Linde, Industry Partners Open First Hydrogen Station in Leipzig, Germany
|
On October 15, the German H2 Mobility joint venture announced the opening of Leipzig, Germany's first hydrogen station for fuel cell vehicles (FCVs).
The technology for the new hydrogen facility at the TOTAL service station in Leipzig is produced by Linde and has the capacity for refueling up to 40 FCVs per day. The facility is owned and operated by H2 Mobility, which includes FCHEA members Linde and Air Liquide along with Daimler, OMV, Shell, and TOTAL.
The partners’ primary goal is to operate 100 stations in seven German metropolitan areas and along motorways and highways by the end of 2019. Another 300 hydrogen service stations will follow as the vehicle numbers are ramped up.

Nel Awarded $46 Million for Large-Scale Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus Project in Europe
|
On September 27, FCHEA member Nel ASA announced that its H2BusEurope project has been selected by the European Union's Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program for a proposed award of €40 million (about $46.4 million) to deploy a fleet of fuel cell buses and supporting hydrogen infrastructure.
The H2BusEurope project was developed by Nel and other industry partners to deploy a total of 600 fuel cell city buses in selected regions in Europe and establish a sufficient supply of green hydrogen with Nel's H2Stations.
Nel states that the company and its H2BusEurope partners will reveal further details on the project within a few months.

South Korean President Rides in Hyundai NEXO FCV, Visits Air Liquide Hydrogen Station During France Visit
|
During his state visit to France this week, South Korean President Moon Jae-in took time to ride in a Hyundai NEXO, the automaker's newest hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (FCV). To show support for Hyundai's fuel cell initiatives at home and abroad, President Moon rode a NEXO through the streets of Paris, and visited a hydrogen refueling station built by Air Liquide to witness the FCV's three minute fueling process.

While President Moon was in Paris, Hyundai signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Air Liquide and French energy firm Engie to collaborate on accelerating the deployment of FCVs and hydrogen fueling stations in France.
South Korea's
Yonhap News Agency reports that at the signing event, Hyundai stated that it aims to ship 5,000 FCVs to France by 2025 under the new partnership.

In addition, during President Moon's visit, Air Liquide announced the completion of four new hydrogen fueling stations in South Korea, along with plans to construct two new hydrogen stations in the Paris metropolitan area. According to Air Liquide, there are now 300 FCVs on the road in France.

Toyota to Supply Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology to Portuguese Bus Manufacturer
|
On September 26, Toyota announced that it will supply its fuel cell systems, including fuel cell stacks, hydrogen tanks and other key components to Portuguese bus manufacturer Caetanobus SA.
According to Toyota, the first fuel cell buses for urban transit will complete production at Caetanobus SA in about twelve months, and will be operated in demonstration runs in Portugal.

Intelligent Energy to Launch Off-Grid Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Product
|
From October 9 - 11, FCHEA member Intelligent Energy unveiled and displayed the ECO GH2, a hydrogen fuel cell power product aimed specifically at the construction industry, at UK Construction Week (UKCW) in Birmingham, UK.
The ECO GH2, jointly developed with British construction equipment supplier TCP, was used by UKCW within the Energy 2018 section to provide silent, zero emission power to the Renewable Energy Theater and to demonstrate the capabilities of the product to attendees.
Intelligent Energy states that the new hydrogen-fueled system uses one of their 801 Fuel Cell Modules (FCM) to produce a DC generator, which is capable of a maximum output of one kilowatt. The ECO GH2 can be used with DC power loads or with a TCP inverter power pack to produce an off-grid generator unit up to five kilowatts for power tools, accessories, and welfare units.
According to Intelligent Energy, the ECO GH2 is zero-emission at point of delivery and has near silent operation, which is beneficial for night-time work and operating in urban areas. Intelligent Energy also states that the product is lightweight, easy to carry and operate, can be used in enclosed ventilated spaces, and there are no liquid fuels.

Nel Opens Large-Scale Hydrogen Station Production Facility in Denmark
|
On September 21, Nel ASA announced the opening of a new factory in Herning, Denmark, to enable large-scale production of its hydrogen fueling station, H2Station.
According to Nel, the facility can manufacture up to 300 of its H2Stations per year. Nel states that the factory is able to produce H2Station models that meet certification in the United States, Europe, and Asia all on the same production line.

MyFC Ships JAQ Hybrid Fuel Cell Charger to Lightec in Japan
|
On September 27, FCHEA member myFC announced the successful shipment of 500 units of its JAQ Hybrid fuel cell charger device to Japanese firm Lightec. According to myFC, Lightec will introduce the JAQ Hybrid charger in October for sale in the Japanese market.
Lightec will utilize its nationwide distribution network to sell the JAQ Hybrid to retail chains, such as 7-Eleven and Lawson, and mobile operators' stores, including KDDI and Softbank.

Hydrogenics to Supply Large-Scale PEM Electrolyzer for Hydrogen Fueling Station in Germany
|
On October 15, Hydrogenics announced that it has been chosen to supply a large-scale electrolysis system for a hydrogen fueling station in Germany. The customer, Maximator GmbH, a compressor manufacturer, is building a one megawatt facility in Wuppertal to fuel more than 10 new fuel cell buses operated by WSW – the local public transit company.
Surplus energy generated by a local waste incinerator will be used to power the electrolyzer and generate hydrogen. The Hydrogenics system will be delivered during 2019 and produce over 400 kilograms of hydrogen per day.

Nel Receives Purchase Order for Australia's First Power-to-Gas Project
|
On September 27, Nel ASA announced that it has received a purchase order for the first Power-to-Gas (P2G) project in Australia from the ATCO Group that will use a Proton PEM electrolyzer.
ATCO is developing a Clean Energy Innovation Hub (CEIH) based at the company’s Jandakot Operations facility in Western Australia. The CEIH incorporates the production, storage and use of hydrogen, as well as the commercial application of clean energy in microgrid systems. The CEIH will produce green hydrogen from solar energy-powered electrolysis and inject the hydrogen into the micro-grid system at the Jandakot facility.
Nel states that this project will help the company gain experience in optimizing hydrogen storage solutions, blending hydrogen with natural gas and using hydrogen as a direct fuel. The CEIH project is supported by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), and is expected to be fully operational next year.

Toyota Industries to Adopt Hydrogen Supply System Using Toshiba Facility in Japan
|
On October 5, Toyota Industries announced that it will adopt a Toshiba Energy Systems and Solutions' (ESS) facility to produce and supply hydrogen made from renewable energy for fuel cell forklifts used at the Takahama plant of Toyota Industries in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
According to Toyota, the system will control the amounts of production and compression of hydrogen using Toshiba ESS’s hydrogen energy management system, which includes a hydrogen demand prediction function that forecasts supply requirements for each fuel cell forklift.

Since November 2016, Toyota Industries has supplied almost 80 hydrogen-powered forklifts to factories and airports. Six forklifts are operating at its Takahama Plant, and Toyota plans to add an additional six in the coming fiscal year.

MyFC Launches New Charger, Protects Technology
|
Last week, myFC announced
the launch of theJAQ Hybrid fuel cell charger with partner Lightec at the Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies (CEATEC Technology) Exhibition in Japan. JAQ Hybrid is a power bank for smartphones and tablets integrated with myFC’s LAMINA fuel cell. It can be charged either using myFC's patented green fuel, or through a typical wall outlet.
MyFC also announced it received a patent pending that protects the fuel chemistry of its PowerCard. This innovation ensures that no counterfeit cards will be accepted by the myFC system and consumers can trust the cards they use are certified and safe.

Air Liquide Publishes Report on the Uses of Hydrogen Energy
|
On October 8, Air Liquide published "Destination Hydrogen," a report on hydrogen as an energy carrier. The report provides an overview of hydrogen development worldwide, and the partnerships and initiatives that are working to deploy it in different countries.

Toyota Considers Hydrogen Mobility Partnership between Railways and Automobiles
|
On September 27, Toyota announced an agreement with East Japan Railway Company (JR East) for a hydrogen-based mobility partnership between railways and automobiles. According to Toyota, the partnership is aimed at realizing sustainable, low-carbon societies in the face of global warming and energy diversification.
Toyota states that the partnership with JR East stems from the companies' desires to link railway and automobile transportation, fuse management resources, and promote initiatives that make use of hydrogen.
According to Toyota, the two companies are discussing a wide range of transportation applications for hydrogen fuel cells. These include: establishing hydrogen stations on land owned by JR East, introducing light-duty fuel cell vehicles and buses for local transportation, and applying fuel cell technologies in railway carriages.

Nel Working with Consortium to Bring Alstom Hydrogen Train to Northern Germany
|
On October 1, Nel ASA demonstrated the Alstom Coradia iLint hydrogen fuel cell train in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. A test drive of the train was performed between the towns of Neumünster and Kiel with the participation of Dr. Bernd Buchholz, Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of Transport.
Nel is part of the H2-Consortium Westküste, a group of companies working with Alstom to commercially launch the Coradia iLint in Schleswig-Holstein. To achieve this deployment, the consortium is preparing a 20 MW electrolyzer in the town of Heide with sufficient capacity to potentially refuel a complete fleet of hydrogen trains in Schleswig-Holstein and other heavy duty vehicles in the region. The consortium also has plans for installing hydrogen refueling stations at train stations, bus depots or truck distribution centers.

The consortium is cooperating closely with Alstom on an open tender for zero-emission trains in Schleswig-Holstein, which is expected to be decided at the beginning of 2019.

Bloom Energy Receives Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Award for Data Center Power Infrastructure
|
On October 4, Bloom Energy announced that it has been recognized with a Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Award in the Data Center Infrastructure Solutions category. The Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Awards recognize technologies for visionary innovation and industry impact, among other factors.
According to Frost & Sullivan, the Bloom Energy Server was recognized for providing clean, affordable, high-availability primary power for data centers, without reliance on traditional back-up or power conditioning equipment.

Hyundai Uses NEXO to Clean London's Dirtiest Route
|
As part of its Clean Driving™ Month and the launch of the next-generation NEXO, Hyundai Motor Company teamed up with the University College London (UCL) to map a driving route of the most polluted and congested roads in London, including areas such as Kings Cross, Westminster, Elephant & Castle and Deptford.

UCL reviewed open source data from a King’s College London pollution study to look at nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter levels. The NEXO has an advanced air purification system which filters 99.9% of very fine dust and shows the exact amount of air purified on the display panel in the car. When the NEXO is driven for just one hour, 26.9 kilograms of air is purified.

Air Products to Sponsor Fuel Cell Vehicles Events in China
|
This month, FCHEA member Air Products sponsored and participated in the 3rd International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle Congress (FCVC) in Rugao, China, and the pre-congress Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle Itinerant Exhibition & Roadshow (FCVI). As one of the key sponsors, Air Products will use its proprietary SmartFuel mobile hydrogen fueling technology to refuel fuel cell vehicles taking part in the FCVI.
Air Products states that the company will continue to increase hydrogen production capacity in the Yangtze River Delta to supply high quality hydrogen to local customers. This follows an agreement Air Products signed in March to provide hydrogen fueling equipment to the China Energy Investment Group’s first hydrogen fueling station in Rugao.

Denmark Receives European Union Funding to Deploy 200 Fuel Cell Buses Nationwide
|
On October 2, Copenhagen Capacity, the official business development organization for Copenhagen, Denmark, announced that the country has been selected to receive funding from the European Union (EU) for 200 hydrogen fuel cell buses.
Through the "Connecting Europe Facility Program," the EU will subsidize €40 million (about $46 million) of fuel cell bus purchases for deployment in urban regions. According to Copenhagen Capacity, this funding is expected to bring 200 hydrogen buses to Denmark by 2020, which corresponds to ten percent of Danish city buses potentially running on hydrogen.
Copenhagen Capacity states that in the coming months, Denmark will develop projects to get the hydrogen buses deployed. This will include new hydrogen fueling stations, new buses, production of green hydrogen and training of personal to operate the infrastructure. Copenhagen Capacity is prepared to assist foreign investors who want to be involved in these projects.

To Test in Real-World Conditions, Mercedes-Benz Will Provide Hybrid Fuel Cell Vehicle Model for Customers to Rent
|
On October 9, Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler AG announced that it will soon provide its latest hybrid fuel cell vehicle (FCV) for fleet customers to rent in Germany and Japan.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC F-Cell model combines a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain with an electric battery that can be charged via a wall socket. According to Daimler, the GLC F-Cell has a New European Driving Cycle range of 297 miles using its 4.4 kg hydrogen tank, and an additional thirty-two miles using the lithium-ion battery.

Daimler states that the GLC F-Cell will be available for fleet customers in Germany to rent for $917 per month, with deliveries beginning at the end of October. Daimler hopes to obtain data on real-world driving conditions through the rental agreements, with customers returning the FCV at the end of the full-service contract.
Juergen Schenk, head of Mercedes-Benz electric-drive system integration,
told reporters in Stuttgart, Germany that Daimler will make the GLC F-Cell available for fleet customers in Japan to rent as well at a later stage.

U.S. Department of Energy Undersecretary Shows Support for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technologies
|
Continuing the celebrations of this year's
National Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Day, on October 17, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) published an article by Undersecretary of Energy Mark Menezes discussing the Department's support of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.
According to Undersecretary Menezes, DOE held a Ride and Drive event with two fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) as part of their National Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Day events, and the Undersecretary had the opportunity to get behind the wheel. Undersecretary Menezes discussed his firsthand experience with driving an FCV, noting how it replicates today's driver experience with conventional internal combustion engine cars while producing zero emissions besides water.

Describing hydrogen as a critical part of DOE's “all of the above” energy portfolio, Undersecretary Menezes also detailed stationary and material handling applications for fuel cells. In addition, Menezes explained DOE's H2@Scale initiative, which brings together stakeholders and national labs to figure out how to provide affordable hydrogen production, transport, and storage to be used across multiple sectors like steel manufacturing, energy storage, and other transportation modes including truck, rail, and maritime.

Hawaii Air National Guard Uses Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology in Training Event
|
In October, the Hawaii Air National Guard (HIANG) reported on a bilateral training exercise held last month with the Indonesian National Armed Forces that integrated the use of hydrogen fuel cell technologies for the first time.
The exercise entailed the deployment of a mobile, 5-kW hydrogen fuel cell generator, provided by representatives from the Hawaii Center for Advanced Transportation Technologies. Emergency response teams were dispatched during a mock-biohazard scenario. The teams comprised of Airmen from the 154th Medical Group, Detachment 1, who were accompanied by members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, as part of the ongoing National Guard State Partnership Program.
During the exercise scenario, the generator was convoyed to the ‘incident site’ by medical Airmen and used to set up a decontamination tent and power its lighting systems. The use of traditional, fossil fuel generators has been ubiquitous throughout the military, which enables units, such as the 154th Medical Group, to respond to crisis in remote destinations.

According to the HIANG, Hawaii’s Congressional leaders, local government, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the HIANG have been striving to increase their use of alternate energy sources as part of Hawaii’s clean energy initiative, with a goal set to be completely reliant on clean energy by 2045. HCATT has been demonstrating fuel cell technologies for the past two decades in an effort to eventually replace pollutive energies.

Energy Department Request for Information on Multi-Sector Uses of Hydrogen
|
|
The United States Department of Energy has released a request for information (RFI) soliciting stakeholder feedback on opportunities to enable high volume production and multi-sector use of hydrogen.
With the help of this RFI, hydrogen use could be expanded and made more affordable across multiple applications such as energy storage, running large turbines at power plants, supporting grid flexibility and enabling baseload operation of nuclear plants, as well as increased renewable power generation.
The objective of this RFI is to assess the domestic resources compatible with large-scale hydrogen production, as well as to identify pathways to effectively leverage these resources for near- and long-term use in major industries. Responses to this RFI will provide DOE insight into the technical and economic barriers associated with these production pathways and end-uses to help establish a more focused and relevant H2@ Scale research portfolio.

New Jersey Draft Volkswagen Settlement Beneficiary Plan for Public Comment
|
This month, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) released its draft Beneficiary Mitigation Plan for the Volkswagen Mitigation Trust Settlement.
From the draft plan, NJDEP has stated it intends on maxing out is 15% allotment for ZEV infrastructure, but its language is focused solely on using it for battery electric vehicles. The Mitigation Trust spending strategy will also focus on high-impact projects, including electrifying public transportation and heavy-duty vehicles/engines in disproportionately impacted communities. NJDEP will also support pilot projects that will lead to scalable zero emission vehicle ventures, such as electric buses for public K-12 schools and higher education institutions.
NJDEP anticipates spending its Trust allocation in three, $24.1 million phases. After each phase, NJDEP may modify its approach based on experience implementing the previous phase of pilot projects. This phased approach will also allow NJDEP to adjust priorities and investments based on advancements in engine and vehicle technology.
NJDEP is accepting comments until November 7, 2018.

Pennsylvania Alternative Fuel Transportation Initiatives Funding
|
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has allocated $5 million in funding for its Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant (AFIG) Program. AFIG can assist school districts, municipal authorities, nonprofits, corporations, LLCs, and partnerships registered to do business in Pennsylvania in offsetting the costs of implementing alternative fuel using transportation projects.
According to DEP, for new hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, applicants may request 100% of the incremental cost of the vehicle up to $40,000 per vehicle. This year's AFIG grants give priority to projects that include the use of emergency vehicles for response, rescue, and evacuation operations.
DEP will collect and review Applications received by 4 PM on Friday, December 14, 2018.

Maryland Animal Waste to Energy Grant
|
The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) is excited to announce the opening of the Fiscal Year 2019 (FY19) Animal Waste to Energy Grant Program (AWE Grant Program). MEA has made up to $6,000,000 dollars available in two Areas of Interest (AOI) on a farm/pilot scale and a community/regional scale.
Eligible projects must use animal waste, through any proven process, to generate electricity, reduce the volume of animal waste, and address the fate of the byproduct.
Applications are due December 15, 2018.

Maryland Data Center Energy Efficiency Grant Program
|
The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) is pleased to announce the launch of the Fiscal Year 2019 Data Center Energy Efficiency Grant Program ("DCEEG" or the "Program"). This first of its kind in the country grant is now entering a third cycle and is designed to support Maryland's robust and growing information technology sector.
The DCEEG provides funding on a competitive basis to encourage the implementation of cost-effective energy efficiency technologies in data centers throughout the State. Grant awards will range from $20,000 to $200,000 per eligible project, subject to funding availability. Grants are designed to cover up to 50% of the net customer cost (up to $200,000) for innovative and cost-effective energy efficiency solutions.
Successful projects must results in the reduction of energy usage within a data center through cost-effective energy efficiency measures.
Applications will be reviewed competitively and MEA will accept applications until 11:59 PM EST, December 22, 2018.

Maryland Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Program Seeks FY 2019 Applicants
|
The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) is accepting applications for its competitive Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Program (AFIP).
The program is designed to aid in the development of alternative fuel refueling/recharging infrastructure in Maryland. Each applicant’s cost share must be at least 50% of the total project cost. Eligible projects include natural gas refueling with fast-fill dispensers, propane refueling, ethanol refueling, DC fast-charging and hydrogen refueling.
As of now, MEA's budget for the Fiscal Year 2019 AFIP is up to $6 million. However, MEA reserves the right to increase or decrease the program budget. Grant awards for hydrogen refueling stations are capped at a maximum of $300,000 per station.
Completed applications must be received at MEA no later than December 31, 2018 at 5:00 PM EST.

Pennsylvania ZEV Infrastructure Grant Program
|
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recently launched a new grant program for zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) charging and fueling stations to increase options for ZEV owners and encourage more people to consider these clean vehicles for their next car. The funding comes from Pennsylvania’s $118 million settlement with Volkswagen Group of America for cheating on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency emissions tests.
The grants are available through Governor Tom Wolf’s Driving PA Forward initiative. The goal of the initiative is to permanently reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) pollution from vehicles.
Up to $3 million in grants is available for acquisition, installation, operation, and maintenance of ZEV fast-charging equipment and hydrogen fuel cell equipment through 2019. Grants are awarded as reimbursements after completed projects, with a maximum amount of $500,000. The amount awarded depends on the charging or fueling capacity of the proposed equipment.
Application deadlines are 4:00 PM on January 25, July 15, and December 16, 2019. All applications from each period will be reviewed.

NYSERDA Stationary Fuel Cell Program
|
NYSERDA’s Stationary Fuel Cell Program aims to quickly increase the amount of electricity produced by fuel cell systems in New York State. By providing $15 million over two years, NYSERDA will help facilities to reduce the upfront costs of installing and operating fuel cells and support commercially viable fuel cell systems that help lower greenhouse gas emissions.
NYSERDA will provide $7.5 million a year for two years for a total of $15 million to support new installations of stationary fuel cell systems at eligible sites. No system can receive more than $1 million from NYSERDA.
Incentives are divided into two main categories:
- Total Base Incentives, which include base incentives determined by installed capacity, and grid independent incentives based on the capability for operating when there are outages
- Bonus Incentives which are based on location of the site and whether the site is deemed to be critical infrastructure

South Coast AQMD Hydrogen Infrastructure Partnership Program
|
This Program Opportunity Notice (PON) seeks to expand the availability of hydrogen refueling infrastructure in the South Coast AQMD region by making available a source of co-funding that can be accessed by the
Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC’s) strategic partners. The intent is to provide funding that can be used to improve the financial viability of a candidate hydrogen refueling station that has already undergone vetting by the Energy Commission or South Coast AQMD, or is being proposed by a public agency or industry stakeholder that will undergo evaluation by the MSRC, Energy Commission, or South Coast AQMD. The goal is to have this funding source readily available so it can be tapped by our strategic partners during and within the course of their regular procurement processes.
To this end, the MSRC has allocated $3,000,000 in Clean Transportation Funding from its FY 2016-’18 Work Program for the MSRC’s Hydrogen Infrastructure Partnership Program. This is an
initial funding allocation; the MSRC reserves the right to increase the funding available under this PON by allocating additional funds from either the FY 2016-’18 Discretionary Fund or a future Work Program.
The period of submittal under this PON closes on April 10, 2020, unless extended by the MSRC.
