FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
As we near the internal deadline each year, some frequently asked questions come up.
We thought it might be helpful to address them for all Fulbright Friday recipients!
(1) If I lock my application before September 1, will that prevent my recommenders and language evaluators from submitting their letters or forms?
No, locking an application earlier than the September 1 deadline will not prevent recommenders and language evaluators from directly submitting their materials by Georgetown's internal deadline.
(2) What happens if I lock my application by the September 1 deadline, but required parts of it (for example, recommendations) are missing?
The Center for Research & Fellowships reserves the right to not match with a campus mentor applicants who lock incomplete (that is, missing recommendations, evaluations, and other required components) draft applications by the September 1 internal due date.
Applicants should check in with their recommenders and language evaluators about the internal deadline.
(3) If I don't lock my application by Georgetown's September 1 internal due date, can I list Georgetown University as my institutional affiliation if I still plan to apply this year by Fulbright's October 7 application deadline?
Yes, Georgetown student and alumni applicants who do not lock completed draft applications (including recommendations, evaluations, and other required components) by Georgetown’s September 1 internal due date can still list "Georgetown University, DC" as their institutional affiliation in the Fulbright application portal (see "Institution Type" in "Country & Award Selection" section). But they will not be matched with a campus mentor for Georgetown's mentorship/review process.
(4) Can my recommender or language evaluator unsubmit a letter or form in order to make a correction?
Occasionally, Fulbright recommenders or language evaluators want to request that their letters or forms be unsubmitted in order to make a correction. Only they can do this by emailing Fulbright at fbstudentsupport@iie.org. Applicants and the Center for Research & Fellowships cannot request that particular letters/forms be unsubmitted. All forms or letters must then be resubmitted by the deadline.
(5) After I lock my application for Georgetown's September 1 internal deadline, can I still edit it?
Yes, the Center for Research & Fellowships, once mentor introductions have occurred, will unlock applications in the portal. This means that applicants can continue working on them, including incorporating feedback from mentors. Completed applications must then be submitted by October 7 at 5 PM ET, which is the Fulbright U.S. Student Program's national deadline this year.
(6) Does Fulbright accept late application materials that are submitted after 5 PM on October 7?
No, Fulbright will not accept late materials. Applicants should be sure that all required and completed components of their Fulbright applications are submitted by then via the portal's "Review & Submit" section. (Remember, applicants should not use the submit feature for Georgetown's September 1 internal deadline.)
