1,000 CHARACTERS - MAXIMUM
This short answer question must be no more than 1,000 characters in length, including spaces. 1,000 characters (with spaces) approximately equals 170 words.
The answer will be entered directly into a box in the Fulbright application portal. You should write one continuous block of text without separate paragraphs. (Adding paragraphs using hard returns will cause an error in how the application is displayed for reviewers.)
FULBRIGHT GUIDANCE
Fulbright shares: An objective of the Fulbright Program is to:
“support activities and projects with broad multiplier effects. As a relatively small number of persons can participate in any of these, it is desirable that they be persons who are or who are likely to be in positions to share their experiences and knowledge with others.”
Describe your career and/or educational plans after completing a Fulbright grant. How will your Fulbright experience help you reach these future goals? How will you share your Fulbright experience with your community upon your return from the grant?
APPROACH
Think through how the Fulbright grant you are proposing connects with your previous experiences and your future. Of course, your future plans may change over time. However, this question allows you to explore why – in your current thinking – this particular Fulbright award in this particular location will help prepare you for your educational and/or professional goals, as well as your long-term interests.
WRITING TIP
As with short answer question one (flexibility and adaptability) and short answer question two (community engagement), please carefully consider this prompt. It is important that you describe how this proposed grant fits within your short-term and long-term plans. This prompt is an opportunity to highlight for the reviewers how you anticipate the Fulbright experience will be a meaningful (or perhaps transformative) one in your life and how this structured time of intercultural exchange will inform your activities, engagement, and outlook after the grant ends.
