Culture, Transparency, and Compensation Philosophies

Culture is a vital element of any organization, especially within the nonprofit sector. Naturally, the goal is developing and sustaining a positive culture, which contributes to high employee retention and satisfaction, among many other important benefits.

Transparency can strengthen an organization’s positive culture and creating an organizational compensation philosophy is one of the proven tactics confirming authentic transparency and driving positive culture forward.

Fulcrum Charter Members dove into compensation philosophies during the most recent "mixer" with the expert facilitation of social entrepreneur and facilitator of change, John E. Kobara. Connecting an organization’s ambition with personal ambition, pegging compensation objectives against peers and aspirant peers, and pegging the percentage pay gap between the top earner and the bottom earner were among the key topics discussed.

For those leaders with experience creating a compensation philosophy, I'd appreciate you adding your thoughts and guidance to the recent LinkedIn post.

Congratulations to Claudia Keller and Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County on Award

Congratulations to Claudia Keller, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, on receiving the Non-Profit of the year award for the 73rd Assembly District in California.

Joined by amazing board members, dedicated staff, and very enthusiastic volunteers, Second Harvest Food Bank recently celebrated over 5 million pounds of locally harvested produce grown for the Foodbank at Harvest Solutions Farm.

Harvest Solutions Farm, located on 45 acres in Irvine, was started in August 2021. The Farm is a partnership between Second Harvest, University of California South Coast Research & Extension Center and Solutions for Urban Agriculture. It is an integral part of Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County's nutrition strategy and provides 50,000-60,000 pounds of fresh produce every week for those in need in Orange County. Volunteers are key to operations of Harvest Solutions Farm and shifts are available Tuesday through Saturday.

Charter Member Next Steps and Reminders

Here are a few key next steps and reminders for Charter Members.

  • Register and apply if you have not yet completed that step. Visit www.fulcrumleader.com/register/. You will be asked to set up your account and complete the application. As a Charter Member, you do not need to complete the references section. We appreciate the answers to the other questions as we will use that information to identify proper Core Group placement.
  • Format your own personal profile page with the images and the biographical information you desire to share. This step can be completed after you register/apply.
  • Follow Fulcrum Nonprofit Leadership on LinkedIn. The more followers we can gain, the easier it will be to reach the broader nonprofit world with our thought leadership.
  • Complete and sign your member agreements when they are sent. Within that process you will have the opportunity to elect to receive equity in Fulcrum or a lifetime of free membership. Mansi will be sending those out sometime soon.

If you would like help with any of these items, please don't hesitate to contact Mansi Chokshi at mansi@fulcrumleader.com. Mansi will be happy to walk you through any of these steps.

Please Reach Out. We Love Hearing From You.
