Fulcrum Charter Members Reach The 100 Mark

I'm thrilled to report that Fulcrum Charter Members exceeded the 100 member mark last week, which is a huge accomplishment for an organization that is barely six months old.

The best part of this achievement is the knowledge that you and the rest of the 100 Charter Members are among the most successful, effective, strategic, ethical and caring nonprofit leaders in the sector.

Being associated and learning from such a great group of professionals is a true blessing and I look forward to the exciting journey ahead.

5 Takeaways from the Giving USA Report

Giving USA 2024, the leading report on fundraising in America, recently published the results for 2023. Here are the five most important takeaways.

  1. Total estimated charitable giving in the U.S. reached $557.16 billion. This is a new high in current dollars but a decline of 2.1% when adjusted for inflation.
  2. Giving by individuals declined 2.4% in 2023 when adjusted for inflation. Giving by individuals is shrinking as a piece of the total giving pie. At the same time giving by individuals in shrinking, giving by foundations is growing.
  3. Several sectors saw major boosts in giving. Education, Foundation, Public-Society benefit, and Arts, culture and humanities all grew more than 5% with Foundations growing by 10.8%. These segments coincide with common giving priorities of the wealthiest donors.
  4. Bequests continue to be significant. Giving by bequest stayed relatively flat this year but remains a significant piece of the puzzle of total giving.
  5. Corporate giving is a small but growing piece of the pie. The five-year growth rate for corporate giving is 14.3%, over twice the total giving rate over the same period (5/3%).

Next Charter Member Virtual "Mixer" - Fri, August 9 at 10AM PT

Please join our next Fulcrum Charter Member "mixer" next Friday, August 9 at 10AM PT.

This is a 30-minute virtual gathering to hear remarks from Fulcrum Founder and CEO Chris Looney, provide time for Charter Members to network, and explore key topics connected to nonprofit leadership.

One fun anecdote from this most recent mixer is that two members, one who currently works in Arizona and another that will be moving their in the near future, were able to make a connection that might result in a collaboration of programs for the two organizations. Now that's great networking!

A calendar invite will be sent out on or around August 1 but please put a hold now so protect the time if possible.

Additionally, there is an online calendar that you can access through the Fulcrum member site at www.fulcrumleader.com that allows you to subscribe and always be in the know of upcoming events.

Below is the Zoom link if you want to save the date.

SELF LESS by Len Jessup

Len Jessup is a two-time university president, two-time business school dean, long-time business school professor in leadership, innovation, tech, entrepreneurship, and organizational change, and a startup investor and pioneer.

Last Friday Len joined our Charter Member mixer to share some wisdom around leadership by sharing an anecdote about an unlikely hero that had courage to bring forward an issue that needed to be addressed and the leadership moment for Len was his willingness to listen, respond, and maintain dilligence and persistence throughout the effort to bring about an important change on campus. According to Len, a more enlightened, inclusive approach to leadership, what Len terms "self less leadership,” occurs when a leader acts with concern with the needs of other and defers personal credit. Charter Member Essential Next Steps

There are just a few administrative items that require your attention. The good news is that they do not require a lot of your time. Here are the five essential steps.

  1. Register and Apply. Visit www.fulcrumleader.com/register to complete this first important step. Don't spend too much time. Just get through the process quickly so you are officially in the system. Not sure if you've registered/applied, email Mansi at mansi@fulcrumleader.com.
  2. Create Your Personal Profile Page. This is very similar to setting up your Instagram or Facebook page with a few pictures and a few details. This allows other members to find you and will allow you to find other members when you are on the members page.
  3. Follow Fulcrum on LinkedIn. Takes very little time and helps us to expand our reach. Thanks for helping us reach more people with the Fulcrum message.
  4. Review and Initial the Charter Member Award Plan Document. This comes to you from DocuSign. It should take 10 minutes to review and initial.
  5. Review and Sign the Charter Member Agreement Document. This is the last step for most to formalize their membership in Fulcrum. It should take 10 minutes to review and sign.

If you would like help with any of these items, please don't hesitate to contact Mansi Chokshi at mansi@fulcrumleader.com. Mansi will be happy to walk you through any of these steps.
