Art by the Sea Fine Arts & Crafts is a Prestigious Exhibition by Members of the Vero Beach Art Club and the Vero Beach Museum of Art. This is one of the most anticipated shows of the Vero Beach Art Club's season. Held in the beautiful Holmes Great Hall at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, this show offers artists a chance to show one piece of each of their artwork, all available for sale.

Another Kind of Car Show
January 28 – April 30, 2023
Beginning in the 1930s, the confluence of aircraft design, the sleek shapes of fast railroad locomotives, advanced highways like the German Autobahns, the Italian Autostradas, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, along with epoch-changing global events like the 1939 New York City World’s Fair, encouraged automotive designers and engineers to style truly streamlined cars.

Cars at McKee
On Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. McKee Botanical Garden will host its 14th Annual Motor Car Exhibition featuring over forty of “The Collectors’ Favorite”automobiles from their private collections. The exhibit will showcase a great variety of cars from antique to modern, as well as a display of motorcycles.
This fun, family-oriented presentation of motoring excellence will be on display throughout the Garden and visitors will have an opportunity to speak with the car collectors. McKee’s annual motor car exhibition is one of the top shows in the area with its unique garden setting.
Enjoy two exhibitions for the price of one! This year’s exhibition will be held in conjunction with McKee’s Garden of Glass Exhibition by world renowned master glass artist Jason Gamrath. This exhibition will be on display from now through April 30 and features ten one-of-a-kind stunning glass orchids, waterlilies, and plants celebrating the beauty, movement, and power in the natural world through the medium of glass.

AN ARTIST'S JOURNEY: THE LIFEWORKS OF CHRYSSIE BILDER TAVRIDES at Polk Museum of Art
For nine decades, Chryssie Tavrides (b. 1928) has made art — and others' enjoyment of her art — her lifelong passion and career as a working artist. One need spend only a few minutes with the artist's work in any media to grasp both Tavrides' breadth of subject matter and innate talents as a painter and draftswoman. From commissioned and family portraits to florals and seascapes, Tavrides' works on display in this exhibition serve as a retrospective of a life spent observing and interpreting, creating studies of the people, sights, and environments around her in an approachably impressionistic manner.
A native of Chicago, Tavrides studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, first as a ten-year-old when she attended art classes for grade schoolers and then again, more officially, as a degree-earning undergraduate fine arts student. Now a resident of Florida for the past 30 years and at age 94, Tavrides still works out of her studio and home here in Central Florida.
The works in this exhibition range from the 1970s to the 21st century and cover a spectrum of materials and techniques, including acrylic, charcoal, stone lithography, and mixed-media.

On February 4 and 5th, 2023, from 10 am to 4 pm each day, the Vero Beach Art Club is again hosting Art Trail - the ever-popular, once-a-year, event where artists open their homes and/or studios to the art lovers in our community. Since Art Trail has been on hiatus since 2019 due to the pandemic, its re-introduction gave the Club a chance to shake up the format a bit. Thus, this year, eleven artists will comprise the Trail, the event will run for two days (vs. 1 day previously), and it will be free of charge.

Information about all of the individual artists, a registration form, and a truly awesome interactive map can be found at https://www.verobeachartclub.org/art-trail . This event is popular with artists because they can display large batches of their works, share their thought processes, and explain their techniques to those who attend. On the other hand, patrons enjoy the opportunity to see where the artists work, explore the artists’ motivations, and observe the methods the artists use to produce their creations. Of course, both artists and patrons enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in which they can either sell or buy high-quality original artwork.

Brahms 4 & Rach 2 - Aaron & Lindsay Together Again ... for the First Time

Wise pianists fear Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto, one of the most fiendishly difficult pieces ever composed for piano, but also one of his most loved for its gorgeous lyricism. Prepare for an extraordinary concert experience when celebrated and award-winning pianist Lindsay Garritson takes on Rachmaninov's beloved Piano Concerto No. 2. Combining glorious melody, swelling orchestration, lush harmonies, and displays of blistering speed, it's no secret why this is regarded as one of the best piano concertos ever written.
Brahms’s Fourth Symphony is a titan of the symphonic repertoire. In his final symphony, the composer weaves a musical narrative evoking both dramatic intensity and profound serenity delivering a concert finale of heightened emotion. Filled with deep emotion, profound complexity and beautiful melancholy, Brahms’ Fourth Symphony finishes with a finale that will leave you speechless.

This is Garritson's first time performing with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra. "I've actually never met Aaron in person! We were connected through a mutual musical friend, and technically we 'met' for the first time on Facebook ... and we decided it would be wonderful to collaborate in a concerto together. The rest is history!"
Garritson has been busy as accompanist for the Oliveira International Violin Competition in Boca Raton, but took time to explain why the Rachmaninoff Second Piano Concerto is infamously challenging. "The Rachmaninoff is difficult for many reasons, the most obvious (when one listens to it) being the sheer amount of notes to keep track of! Another element is finding a 'singing' tone for this music, as it features so many gorgeous, vocal-like melodies. Therefore sound is particularly important for the pianist to think about. This concerto also features quite a big orchestra part (many players are required), and one difficulty of this is that sometimes the sound of the piano can be covered by the orchestra unless the pianist can create a big sound; a certain amount of physical strength is required. But this is also one of the beautiful elements of the piece: there are many moments when the piano and orchestra are in a 'dialogue' with each other, almost like a conversation. In other parts, the piano and orchestra create this amazing wave of emotion side-by-side, building in intensity to important dramatic moments. This concerto is fascinating on so many levels, and the challenge is definitely worth it! I don't know of another concerto that has so much dramatic variety."
Next on Garritson's schedule are two solo recitals, one in Naples, Florida, and one in the Chicago area. Don't think that being an in-demand professional means no regular practice sessions. "The famous Japanese pedagogue Shinichi Suzuki used to say 'Only practice on the days you eat.'"

As you are aware, our Lagoon and waterways are in trouble from runoff from our lawns and roadways. We at Pelican Island Audubon and our sponsors feel that we can greatly reduce this pollution by reducing grass lawns and planting native plants that do not require lots of fertilizer, herbicides, and precious water, but are still attractive to us and our birds, butterflies, fish and other animals, which are in decline. These plantings will save money by reducing precious drinking water use. A central Florida study found that, on average, 64% of our drinking water is used by homes for irrigation. In the summer, this water use rises to 88%. In addition to reducing water use, replacing lawns with native plants will retain soil, preventing erosion into the Lagoon, and reduce fertilizers and herbicides going into what used to be our pristine waters.

Movin' and Shakin' in Boynton Beach | |

The City of Boynton Beach will host its 6th International Kinetic Biennial Art Exhibition & Symposium on Sat., Jan. 28, 10 am - 6 pm, and Sun., Jan. 29, 11 am - 4 pm. This free, family-friendly event, produced by BoyntonArts, the City’s Public Arts Program, will be held in Downtown Boynton and feature one-of-a-kind indoor and outdoor kinetic art experiences, installations, and displays from both local and international artists. The event will include food trucks, live music, artist talks, and video rooms. A unique art form, kinetic artwork moves or gives the impression of moving.
The Kinetic Biennial will feature the work of eighteen artists inside the Boynton Beach Arts & Cultural Center (125 E. Ocean Ave.). Thirteen new outdoor kinetic sculptures and opt art vinyl murals will be displayed through November 2023 in Downtown Boynton from City Hall (100 E. Ocean Ave.) at Seacrest Blvd. to the Intracoastal Marina on East Ocean Ave.

“After hosting five Kinetic Biennials, Boynton Beach is now the world leader in presenting kinetic art as a public event,” said Glenn Weiss, the City of Boynton Beach’s Public Arts Manager. “Attendees will be immersed in art and music throughout the weekend, and those unable to attend can experience thirty-four outdoor sculptures and murals through November 2023.”
The 2023 International Kinetic Biennial is the world’s only continuous cultural event dedicated to the creative overlap of art, technology, and motion, and the only city for tourists and residents to wander among outdoor kinetic sculptures year-round. The Biennial demonstrates the interconnectedness of art and technology and leverages human fascination with movement.

Most artwork is for sale, with all proceeds going to the artist. Descriptive guides will be available to provide information about the exhibition. Enjoy a leisurely walk, approximately 15 minutes or a little over a quarter mile, as you immerse yourself in the breathtaking outdoor kinetic art. Hungry? More than twenty restaurants, cafes, and sandwich shops are within walking distance of the exhibition.

Haitian-American Music at the Arts Garage in February
A collaboration between the Arts Garage in Delray Beach and the Haitian American Chamber of Commerce will present Jean Caze, a featured soloist in Michael Bublé’s band, on Sunday, February 26, at 7 pm.

Kravis' Outreach
The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts celebrated the seventh season of its Broadway Reach arts education program with stunning student performances and visual artwork inspired by the hit Broadway musical Disney's Aladdin.
This year, 83 students from The Conservatory School @ North Palm Beach, Palm Springs Middle School, Riviera Beach Preparatory and Achievement Academy, and U.B. Kinsey/Palmview Elementary School of the Arts were enrolled in the program.
Under the guidance of local teaching artists, 4th-12th graders engaged in academic lessons and social-emotional learning activities related to the content and themes of the Broadway musical Aladdin over a 12-week residency.
This year’s Broadway Reach workshops culminated with performances on the Grand Staircase of the Dreyfoos Hall Lobby and outdoors on the Golden Walkway, prior to the matinee of Aladdin. Students also participated in a post-performance discussion with the cast members who played Aladdin, the Genie and Jasmine.
In addition to learning musical selections from Aladdin, students explored the show’s key themes, including honesty, kindness and being true to yourself.
Next season, the Broadway Reach initiative will continue to engage motivated students from Palm Beach County Title I schools and explore more themes from a specially selected Kravis On Broadway production.

Edward Hopper and Guy Pène du Bois: Painting the Real

An original Polk Museum of Art exhibition, Edward Hopper and Guy Pène du Bois: Painting the Real comprises approximately sixty works and focuses on Hopper and Pène du Bois, two very thematically different but stylistically-overlapping artists who became lifelong friends from the time of their earliest studies at the New York School of Art.

Hopper and Pène du Bois shared a deep interest in representing the evolving modern worlds around them — New York City, Paris, suburban and rural America — and each refracted those worlds through his own unique lens of Realism. Both were also celebrated in their own era as masters of and authorities on American art and Realism. Despite the close connections between Hopper and Pène du Bois in life and in their art, Edward Hopper and Guy Pène du Bois: Painting the Real is the first to examine these two American masters side by side and in the context of a full museum exhibition.

The Environmental Learning Center (ELC) will kick off its 35th-anniversary celebration during its annual fundraiser social, Mangroves and Moonlight, on Saturday evening, January 28th, 5-8 p.m.. The Diamonds and Crystals event will feature guest speaker Captain Winston Scott, a former NASA Astronaut. For 20 years the GYO has offered violin lessons to the children of Gifford where founder Dr. Crystal Bujol believes that changing hearts one violin at a time is worthwhile. Instructions for PIAS Birds Need Plants Photo Contest
- Each month you can submit up to 3 photos for the Birds Need Plants Contest with emphasis on birds pursuing, consuming, using plants, or near plants and prey. To submit a photo for this month, the deadline is the last day of the month.
- A Florida bird must be pictured in your photograph (priority to action shots with or pursuing, using plant, food sources, habitat, and that demonstrate relationship to plants, insects, animals, natural foods).
- The photo must be taken in Florida.
- A photographer may submit 3 digital images per month.
- A photographer will submit only photographs that have never won an earlier award in any contest or exhibit anywhere.
- PIAS requests that you provide the highest resolution possible of your jpg digital images.
- Deadline: The last day of the month
