OFFICE OF FULTON COUNTY COMMISSIONER BRIDGET THORNE DISTRICT 1

FULTON BOC VOTES NO TO MILLAGE RATE INCREASE

6-1 VOTE TO HOLD 8.87 MILLAGE RATE AT THE FULTON COUNTY BOC MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6TH

YOU SPOKE. WE LISTENED

Over the past few weeks, thousands of Fulton County residents raised their voices loud and clear: No Tax Hike!

Through public comments, emails, phone calls, and community engagement, you sent a unified message to the Fulton County Board of Commissioners. I’m proud to report that your efforts paid off.

Despite an initial vote in June to advertise a 1 mil increase—equivalent to a 12.5% property tax hike that would have generated $80 million in additional revenue at the expense of homeowners and renters—the Board ultimately voted 6–1 to keep the millage rate flat at 8.87.

I was incredibly pleased  to join Chairman Robb Pitts and Vice Chairman Ellis, Commissioners  Khadijah Abdur-Rahman, Dana Barrett, and Marvin Arrington in rejecting the proposed tax increase. Commissioner Mo Ivory was the sole vote in favor of the tax hike.

So many of you shared how this increase would have further strained household budgets, especially with rising costs of housing, food, and healthcare. Your voices, combined with persistent advocacy, helped turn the tide.

Thank you for your engagement and commitment to holding government accountable. This victory demonstrates the power of grassroots action—and I encourage you to stay involved. Budget planning for 2026 begins this fall and will directly impact next year’s millage rate. In order to continue keeping taxes low, we must prioritize responsible spending. Please consider now how you would like money to be allocated, and share that with the BOC.

Stay engaged. Stay informed. Together, we make a difference.

CITY OF JOHNS CREEK PROCLAMATION

RECOGNIZED THE CITY OF JOHNS CREEK WITH A PROCLAMATION FOR BEING NAMED THE #1 BEST CITY TO LIVE IN BY US NEWS REPORT

It is an honor to serve as the sole Commissioner representing the exceptional and culturally rich community of Johns Creek on the Fulton County Board of Commissioners. I have long considered District 1 to be among the best in our county, and I am pleased to see that it is recognized by others, such as the U.S. News Weekly for recognizing Johns Creek as the #1 city to live, which is amazing since it’s a relatively new city formed in 2006.

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Mayor Bradberry and the esteemed members of the current City Council as well as the prior City Council Members that are here today for their unwavering commitment to public service and conservative governance. Their efforts have directly contributed to the recognition we celebrate today. Notably, their recent vote to roll back the millage rate, rather than maintain it, exemplifies a strong dedication to fiscal responsibility and to the well-being of our residents.

Johns Creek is defined by its remarkable diversity—of cultures, perspectives, and experiences—which continues to strengthen our community and enrich our shared future. This award is a testament to those values and to the collective efforts that make our city truly outstanding.
