Arkansas 4-H Mission

The mission of 4-H is to provide opportunities for youth to acquire knowledge, develop life skills, form attitudes, and practice behavior that will enable them to become self directing, productive, and contributing members of society. The 4-H emblem is a four-leaf clover with an "H" on each leaf.

Bright Future & Livestock Club

The 4H Bright future club met on April 11 with eleven students in attendance.

The club mainly discussed running a lemonade stand at the Salem Homecoming Festival in May so that the students can learn about Entrepreneurship and Business Financials including 1) event planning 2) event logistics and organization 3) budget setting 4) treasury 5) teamwork 6) social / marketing skills and 7) having fun!

The club also invited the Livestock Club Leader Tim McQueen to talk about the AR State Livestock Quiz Bowl in July. The Livestock Club Leader led a mock quiz with the students by dividing the students into 2 groups which competed as individuals and as two groups. The students loved the competition and had great fun learning about different livestock facts. The students will decide in the May club meeting which of them will participate in the quiz bowl.

As the May Junior Livestock Show is approaching, a couple of students did a presentation on goats. Addaline C. presented an overview on goats and when is the best age to show them. Isabella C. showed the members how the goat halter works and tips on showing a goat.

The club meeting was adjourned by the club president Kamilla B. at 4:30 pm. The May meeting will be held on Monday, May 5 at 3:15 pm at Salem Elementary School.

Spring River Bears

Spring River Bears met Wednesday, April 9. We had 14 members present and four volunteers. We met at the state park and help clean up debris from the flood. Thanks to Zach Baron for grilling hotdogs and the parents who brought the food for our cookout. It was our last meeting until school starts in the fall. We hope everyone has a great summer.
