HOME HELPERS "LOVE YOUR HEART" CAMPAIGN

As a caregiver, it is important to recognize the value that you bring to your client. You are instrumental in helping them to stay healthy and can play a large role in preventing future hospitalization. Often times you may recognize changes before your client does. Even though we are a non-medical agency,

it is our day-to-day interaction with our clients that fosters connection and enables us to know when something is different, as our client ages in their home.

It is this reason that Home Helpers is committed to continually educating our caregivers so that they grow professionally and can also transfer their skills and knowledge while providing exceptional care. Since most of our clients are elderly, and often times heart disease is more apparent in older adults, we felt a need to put more focus in this area. In the fall of 2023 Home Helpers kick started our Cardiac Health Campaign with a Lunch and Learn event with Healing Hearts Holistically, educating our caregivers in the fundamentals of important cardiac wellness and prevention of heart disease. Our future holds many opportunities for our caregivers to become experts in cardiac health.

DO YOU WANT TO BE A PIONEER

IN OUR HEART HEALTHY PROGRAM?

Initially our "Love Your Heart" program will be voluntary and will eventually become mandatory for all of our caregivers. Learning about heart health will provide you with transferable skills. Not only will your client benefit,

you and your family will as well. It is a win-win situation. Change in our habits, that will lead to healthier lifestyles, often take time, and it does not happen overnight. We want to provide you with the tools for success so you can begin your journey and be able to create a path for others.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

You will need to participate and pass the following educational classes:

  • Care Academy: Overview of Heart Disease Care (1 module)
  • Complete your CPR Certification (offered in-house)
  • Watch educational videos provided by The American Heart Association Interactive Cardiovascular Library
  • Complete proprietary classes on Cholesterol (2 modules)
  • Complete proprietary classes on Heart Failure (9 modules)
  • Complete an oral examination (questions on reading nutritional labels)

HOW WILL A "LOVE YOUR HEART"

EDUCATIONAL INSIGHT

Did you know that octopuses have 9 brains, excellent long term memory and are great at solving problems? They also have 3 hearts and their blood is blue. When they swim their hearts stop beating and they get tired easily. Their blood is blue because of the copper in their body.
