City of waterloo neighbourhoods: strong and connected.

Neighbourhood fun for everyone

Collage featuring various types of neighbourhood events including a chinese lions dance people hanging by tennis courts and a plant sale

Neighbourhood events are a fantastic way to meet new people and create lasting memories with those who live just around the corner. Whether you're new to the area or have lived here for years, these gatherings are a great way to connect. We encourage you to take advantage of the warmer months and plan something fun for your neighbourhood. We can help with funding to make it happen! Here are some ideas that might inspire you:

  • Coffee in the Park: Everyone brings their own coffee or tea and enjoys some casual conversation.
  • Garden or Yard Tour: Neighbours with green thumbs can showcase their gardens while inspiring others.
  • Trivia Night: Find a neighbourhood gathering space with fun, local questions.
  • Talent Show: Let neighbours show off their singing, dancing or magic tricks.
  • Board Game or Puzzle Night: Indoors or outdoors, with games for all ages.

Get involved

Give your neighbour a shoutout!

Do you have a really awesome neighbour? Maybe they mow your lawn while you're away, greet you with a smile every morning or bring you delicious treats.

Any act, small or big, is worth celebrating! Say thank you by nominating them to our Neighbourhood Kindness Program and we'll send them a thank-you package!

A neighbour shared they love how there are so many large trees in their neighbourhood. The trees bring lots of birds and shade while keeping their neighbourhood quiet.

Summer celebrations

A group of neighbours held their annual summer barbecue, a tasty tradition of fun, food and friendships.

These types of gatherings are a great way to connect with the community, without having to go far!

Want to plan something similar? We can support you through our mini grant!
