Summer Greetings!
Summer fun!!
What a busy time of year for D Acres! We have been planting, waterin
g,
harvesting, and soaking up the sun! Don't worry, there is a personal swimming hole we dug in the fa
ll (a great place for a quick dip). It is important to us to stay happy and healthy throughout the summer. These goals are accomplished by feasting on our freshly
picked
crops and our weekly yoga with Melanie Luce. Farming, eating well, yoga, swimming, and the fresh summer air is a great recipe for an outstanding summer!
This summer, D Acres continues to open our door to visitors, volunteers, gu
ests, community members, and people who believe in our mission.
Here is a review of our previous two months:
-
H
osting many volunteers with a variety of projects: shucking beans, trail work, lending an extra pair of hands during events.
-
Community Events- Successful family bike ride, in combination with May's 2nd Friday Pizza Night.
-
Collaboration with Friends of Mascoma and Plymouth State Alumni for NH Gives Day
- Two successful workshops: Fermented Beverages with Louise Turner and Mushroom Cultivation with Dan Bensonoff
- A litter of piglets

New Arrivals!
D Acres would like to welcome and introduce our newest additions to the team:
Will Ferullo
Will grew up on Cape Cod and that is where he learned hard work! Will came to D Acres with a strong work ethic a variety of different skills. Prior to his move to D Acres, Will was self employed and small business owner of his own construction company with a focus on: furniture, porches, kitchen remodels, and everything inbetween. He is thriving at D Acres learning the lay of the land, gardening and taking care of the animals! We are lucky to have him aboard!
Michelle
and Aster Aurelio
Michelle joined our team this month as our kitchen manager. She has a calling for cooking, herb usage, and making delicious farm to table meals! We are happy to have her and happy to eat her home cooked meals! Come to a food event, and taste some of Michelle's cooking for yourself! Maybe you will even meet little Aster, her daughter and she will help you feed the chickens!
Alpacas Sisters!
Meet Isabelle and
Cecilia! They are fitting in quite nicely at D Acres an
d loving their new home! Thank you Lynn Sanborn for allowing us to adopt the girls!

canaan elementary school garden kick off 2017 |
Wow! What a busy month for Farm-to School! It was rewarding
Kick Off Day for "The School Garden" at Canaan
Elementary School. The students, parents, faculty, community members all came out to get their hands dirty and have some fun. Over
a dozen fruit trees were planted, two more garden beds were added, and the high school students produced a table and benches for the outdoor classroom. The children learned how to mulch, weed and paint signs while enjoying themselves.
Thank you to everyone that made it possible!
The whole community is buzzing with excitement and collaboration about the school garden. The high school students made a well designed Pergola with Dave Shinlinger.
CES students have been working hard in the garden during school hours. Fruits and vegetables were planted by Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade. The students
will be eagerly waiting for the summer and fall harvest upon their return to school in September. Canaan Parks and Rec Department and D Acres will be pairing up over the summer to help educate the day campers about garden care and harvest. If you are interested in summer garden help at CES, please contact us.
Project Chicken:
D Acres raised up the
baby chicks and invited the 3rd and 4th grade families of CES to the farm to claim their chicks. It was busy day, with over 90 chicks donated to new homes.
To raise egg-citement, D Acres
brought
5 large hens to school for one week. They were in a chicken tractor and helped eat and fertilize the grass. Students of the 4th grade became the "Chicken Ambassadors" and they even
persuaded the principal for another week of chickens! Miss Moe brought the hens back to school for a second week. This pilot program provides a stepping stone to support the growth and development of farm-based curriculum within the public school community.
in our quest to teach responsiblity and expand the knowledge of farm education.
3rd Grade to D Acres: The 3rd graders came to visit the farm. They went on a tour and then we put them to work on farm chores. Thank you for your help and hardwork.
