News from our Area 1 Chair

Hello, fellow ringers! With the pre-Thanksgiving snow (at least in northern New England where I am) my thoughts are definitely on Christmas, either preparing for our Advent and Christmas Eve services, or the many Christmas-themed concerts to play in or attend, or just preparing for family gatherings. Your Area 1 Board has also been busy getting ready for the events for you in the coming year. Here are some highlights:

Ringers' Responsibilities
My sort-of-average church handbell choir is very dedicated, showing up faithfully for rehearsals, services, taking care of their music and our three octaves of handbells. They never complain about my repertoire selections, or anything else for that matter. When I tell people what a great group of ringers I have, someone invariably asks, “I’ve never heard them ring; does your group play outside engagements?” ………. More...
We are entering that busy season of handbell ringing—preparing for Advent and Christmas—when the beauty and the joy of handbells shine in our worship and throughout all our holidays! I’m sure you have been rehearsing diligently all fall!
Hello Maine Ringers,
I first want to tell you about the two wonderful workshops held here in Maine on Oct. 27 th and Nov. 3 rd . At the Augusta event, we had 24 ringers in attendance; and at the Falmouth gathering, 12 ringers attended. More...
Greetings from your MA State Chair.
I hope you have had a great start with your fall rehearsals and musical offerings, whether church based or community related. Now we are in the midst of, and gearing up for, the winter holiday season, which for many will be Advent and Christmas music, and for me an Epiphany concert on January 6... More...
The fall has flown by and holidays are upon us. If your group has a Holiday Concert planned please let me know so that I can share it with all of Area 1. We like to support the choirs that we have.

Fire Destroys Church,Warwick, RI
On Wednesday evening, November 21, Woodbury Union Presbyterian Church in Warwick, RI suffered a devastating fire. The church is probably a total loss, both from fire damage and water damage. The good news is that no one was hurt, and that the handbells were rescued! The bells and chimes all seem to be in good shape, but the cases are soggy and smell like smoke. Malmark cases did a great job of protecting the bells!... More

MARGARET H. SHURCLIFF LEADERSHIP AWARD

Is there someone special you know who tirelessly promotes handbells and The Guild for Area1? Is there a teacher or director who had the patience and took the extra time to get you and your handbell group up to speed? Just how much do they love and promote handbells? Area 1 wants to know about them and reward them. More...
Directors and ringers , maybe missed this SnagASub notice! There's always a first time for seeing something, and we feel so strongly that this on-line "bulletin board" system-for-finding-a-sub will help to make the handbell community an even more friendly and helpful entity, that we may just keep posting this until you come on board.

We need you! At this time the pool of potential subs has grown to 50 ringers and directors, but in order to serve it's purpose, (since it covers a five-state area), it needs to be bigger! Once a ringer is in, it works exactly like an email:  snagasub@googlegroups.com , then "battery ringer needed for (date, place, time, etc.)", and anyone in the group has the option to reply or ignore/delete. Please spread the word.

This is not just for directors and ringers who sometimes have a need for a sub, but is also for interested/brave persons who might love an opportunity to ring more and to get to know other ringers.

Please contact: Cindy, at cmgconcord@gmail.com   or
